Droid Incredible users get some Froyo lovin'

Verizon's Droid Incredible launched to much fanfare back in late April. The phone packs a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8GB of internal storage (microSD expansion is also possible), 3.7" display (480x800) and until today, Google's Android 2.1 operating system (with HTC Sense layered on top).

Verizon tweeted this morning that the owners of Droid Incredible smartphones will begin getting the OTA update to Android 2.2 today.

According to Droid Life, improvements coming to the Droid Incredible via the OTA update include:

  • 720p video recording
  • 802.11n Wi-Fi
  • Adobe Flash Player 10.1
  • 270 degree screen rotation
  • A new Mail Stream widget
  • Text Message widget

In addition, you can expect all of the features and speed improvements found in the base Android 2.2 build.

They're rolling it out...not an all-at-once kinda deal. At least that's my understanding.

My DINC is rooted and already had 2.2, but my wife's still hadn't seen the OTA as of last night. I just went ahead and rooted hers and put her on 2.2 since they were being slow.

Apparently rooted phones have trouble receiving the OTA update. That being said, I reflashed mine to stock and still no update. Maybe root is still the way to go.

They rooted the Droid Incredible with Froyo HTC Sense UI? I didn't know that.

Yes, the ROM was leaked, a few weeks ago actually, but if you wanted it to work normally before OTA you would've had to update the baseband as well as reinstall.
