DirectX 9 integrated graphics VIA style
VIA has announced a new integrated graphics chipset for Intel processors -- the P4M900. The new P4M900 integrates the VIA Chrome9 integrated graphics core with support for DirectX 9 and pixel shader 2.0. Integrated video processing is provided by the VIA Chromation engine which enhances video playback and provides various video output capabilities such as HDTV output resolutions up to 1080p. VIA also claims the P4M900 will be fully compatible with Microsoft Windows Vista Premium with Aeroglass user interface too.
"The VIA P4M900 continues VIA’s strong heritage of IGP solutions for the Intel processor platform,” commented Chewei Lin, Vice President of Product Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. “By delivering DirectX 9 capabilities, DDR2 667MHz memory support and additional PCI Express connectivity, the VIA P4M900 gives SIs and OEMs a powerful option to deliver the perfect blend of performance, scalability and reliability to their customers.”
The P4M900 offers nothing new to the table aside from the integrated graphics core. The P4M900 is otherwise a pretty standard chipset with support for Intel processors up to 1066 MHz front-side bus and DDR2-667. It can be coupled with the VIA VT8251 south bridge for high definition audio, eight USB ports, SATA II, and 10/100 Ethernet. There’s no word on pricing and availability yet, though it is VIA so don’t expect any actual products based on the P4M900 for a couple of months.
"I'm an Internet expert too. It's all right to wire the industrial zone only, but there are many problems if other regions of the North are wired." -- North Korean Supreme Commander Kim Jong-il
