In
the digital world today, few things will bring a gadget geek's happy
day to a screeching halt like a power outage. Power outages during
time of high demand or bad weather are common all across the world in
developed countries, and power in developing nations is often patchy
at best.
Toshiba has
pulled the wraps off a new TV set that has a battery inside that
promises to run for at least two hours without power. The idea is
that you can watch TV with the power off and get access to weather
reports if weather is the issue causing the power outage. The
downside is that without an antenna or some sort of battery for your
cable box or satellite box there may be no shows to watch on the set.
The TV has an OTA tuner inside.
The line of TVs are called
PowerTV and are LED-backlit to save on power. You can get the PC1
sets in 32-inch or 24-inch size and Toshiba claims this is the first
TV line to have a battery inside. The TVs also have tech dubbed Auto
Signal Booster that will help you get a clearer signal on the turner
inside even if you don't have an antenna. Apparently, the sets can
change to battery power immediately so users can just keep watching
when the power goes out. The battery should also act as a battery
backup on a computer acts as well keeping your set from going off if
the power kicks off for a second.
Along with the PowerTV sets,
Toshiba is also rolling out a new high-end set using a Cell Regza
CEVO engine multiprocessor setup for smooth video and better
performance. The set is offered in a large 55-inch screen size, is 3D
ready, and has LED backlighting.
Toshiba
will likewise whip out a 29mm deep WL700 slim LED set as well with
46-inch and 55-inch sizes available.
