Problem affects AC-in on some T-Series notebooks

Toshiba is recalling a number of its T-Series notebooks due to a potential fire hazard. According to Toshiba, there have been reports of notebooks overheating when plugged into the wall with an AC adapter.

The notebooks affected include the Satellite T135, Satellite T135D, and the Satellite Pro T130:

Satellite T135D-S1326, T135D-SP2012L, T135-SP2909R, T135D-SP2012M, T135-SP2013L, T135-SP2013M, T135D-S1322, T135-S1330, T135D-S1328WH, T135D-S1328RD, T135D-S1328, T135D-S1327, T135D-S1325WH, T135D-S1325RD, T135D-S1325, T135D-S1324, T135D-S1320, T135-SP2911R, T135-S1312, T135-S1310WH, T135-S1310RD, T135-S1310, T135-S1309, T135-S1307, T135-S1305WH, T135-S1305RD, T135-S1305, T135-S1300WH, T135-S1300RD, T135-S1300, T135-SP2911C, T135-SP2911A, T135-SP2910R, T135-SP2910C, T135-SP2910A, T135-SP2909C, T135-SP2909A

Satellite Pro T130-W1302, T130-EZ1301

Toshiba has 129 confirmed reports of overheating which can lead to deformation of the notebook's plastic housing. There have been two reports of minor burns and two reports of property damage as a result of the malfunction.

Toshiba's solution to the problem is for users to download a BIOS update which will determine if the notebook is overheating, disable AC charging, and then display a message to contact Toshiba for a free repair.

The machines affected were manufactured between August 2009 and August 2010.

You can find out more information about the recall from Toshiba's website.

i still find it hard to believe that people are managing to burn themselves with overheating appliances. if it's hot why would you touch it long enough to cause even a "minor burn".

maybe all these people are just used to using these computers on their laps... without pants.

because if it's really hot, you can get a minor burn before you sense the pain and react to pull your hand away. And yes, overheating devices can get that hot (hence the prefix 'over' in front of 'heating').

The part I have trouble swallowing is that Toshiba had a big recall on notebooks that were burning up a few years ago, too. You think that would have smartened them up, but it didn't.

this overheating issue is due to the PSU giving out unstable DC currant making the laptop socket or the charge circuit get hot

not the same as overheating laptop that norm happens like the CPU/chipset that tends to make lots of heat or bat overheating

Pirks, go back to your hole.

That's true. If it were Apple, they would have said that there isn't a problem, and if it did burn down, you were obviously using it wrong.

Steve jobs doesn't pay them, their store owner does. Apple stores are given general guidelines to follow like any other chain where warranty guidelines are set but left room for interpretation. Go on a different day to a different store and you get a different answer - just like a warranty claim at a dealership on a vehicle if it could have resulted from possible misuse some are more likely to honor a claim over than others.

Your friend getting an out of service good will claim is not a reflection on apple as a whole, just 1 experience in a sea of others. The article is about covers many more machines being voluntarily recalled by a manufacturer recognizing a mass defect.

The difference here, is the lack of consumer blame in a public release. No Pirks, they are not just "holding it wrong"

But Apple owning Apple stores is not a reflection of how the people hired there will work.

As an example, in many restaurants it is generally mandatory for employees to dispose of any orders that are wrong, yet many times I've seen the people give it away for free to whomever wants it. In the same way, a nice/kind person working at an Apple store may help fix an issue despite a product being out of warranty.

Maybe you can go down to that store and find out for yourself.

If you're going to be an Apple fanatic, at least do some leg work.

Why? Just because some winfanatics lie to me? Not enough incentive then :P

Think about it this way, you can actually be right instead of pretending you're right.

Not everyone likes reality though. Whatever works for you.

This isn't even about Apple, don't try to pull some sort of fanboy crap here. Whether or not a store is owned by a larger company, that doesn't mean they are all punctual on guidelines set for the store. This spreads FAR beyond the Apple store in restaurants, other tech stores, grocery stores, etc.

Punctual or not but they replace the parts no matter under warranty or not when they know that they screwed up. This is totally normal, all decent companies do that, not only Apple.

All companies do this to avoid a class action suit numbnuts, not because they are being "nice".

And this is why people rate you down.

I'm sure your mom uses a PC, I think she would like to hear what you think of her...

People rate me down and don't rate down posts like http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=19541... because people here are mostly as dumb as yourself, buddy.

Now my mom and my sister in law use two mATX boxes I made for them, pure AMD and stuff. Ultarcheap and uberfast, how it's supposed to be with an AMD build. How are you going to deal with that fact now, huh, ya little fanatical balmerococksucka LOL :)))) You think I pwn PC trolls here because I can NOT assemble cheapo mATX boxes for people when it's the most sensible choice? Be wiser next time, idiot, and ask me why I do stuff, do NOT assume things about me. Otherwise you look like a total lamer, just like now heheh :))

1) People rate your Apple flameboy punkass down because you are a mindless mouth breathing Apple troglodyte.

2) I heard your mom and sister both use mATX boxes for other reasons.

3) The very fact that your little bitchass thinks you are "owning" PC users here is laughable.

4) Apple sucks almost as good as your mom and sister.

Oh Jesus, of course they did! Because...

CS: "Hey man, that customer over there wants us to repair a broken hinge on his mac. I wonder how much does it cost?"
Technician: "Oh that's easy. Just do the replacement. Those only cost like $5 each and we already make him pay like $50 just for the hinges alone when he bought that mac." *grin*

CS: "Yo Sir. We already fixed your mac. Here you go."
Customer: "Oh, thank you very much. You really are a nice person and may God bless you all!"
CS: *grin*

:D

Ya, it's called premium customer service. Usually done only for expensive premium brands like Apple, Lexus, Mercedes and so on.
