PS3 Case Size...?

Was there a particular reason a shorter case size was chosen, other than to save space while transporting and storing?

Whats wrong with the standard DVD case size?
:S

It's about the standard size for a Blu-ray Disc, just a bit thicker. It might be because of the PS3 using Blu-ray Disc, or maybe it's just time to evolve beyond the standard DVD case.

Given the size of the physical media, I really wish all DVDs and games came in CD-sized cases (like in the PSone days). I guess publishers like to have the bigger size for box art and more bullet points.

The extra Plastic is expensive, plastic is bad for the environment. If you noticed PC games now come in tiny boxes too to save space. Personally i do not see why 360 game cases are not smaller, having an instructions manual that most people never read with large fonts never really helped anyone.

Back in the day they used to come in huge boxes to take up so much shelf space there was no room for the competition. Industry and consumer pressure caused them to change to the current small box.

The good thing is we used to get nice thick manuals in games.

Sadly, nothing for PSP this week. :(

Patapon will be coming next month at $19.99 though, so I'm looking forward to that.

Then God of War and Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core... oh man, can't wait.

I'm still a bit on the fence about Burnout Paradise as Revenge was quite good. But I know that February is a pretty sweet month for gaming... well for me at least. Dynasty Warriors 6 (the graphics don't look like a PS2 anymore!), Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Odyssey are coming out a week after each other.
