The Orange Box, Unreal Tournament III finally shipping for PlayStation 3

PC
The PC this week finally gets its official movie adaptation that every other platform got last week.

  • The Golden Compass
  • The Lost Crown
  • Universe at War: Earth Assault

PlayStation 3
This week is good for PlayStation 3 owners, though that is mostly a product of development delays holding the product back from its various multi-platform launches.

  • BlackSite: Area 51
  • NCAA March Madness 08
  • The Orange Box
  • Unreal Tournament III

Xbox 360
The special Spanish release of Madden NFL 08 this week marks a new effort by EA Sports to expand its market. Perhaps a French Canadian version of NHL 08 will not be far behind.

  • NCAA March Madness 08
  • Madden NFL 08 (En Espanol)

Wii

  • Indianapolis 500 Legends
  • Kawasaki Quad Bikes
  • Kidz Sports Basketball
  • Myth Makers: Orbs of Doom

  • Dai Senryaku Exceed VII
  • Madden NFL 08 (En Espanol)
  • NCAA March Madness 08
  • NeoGeo Battle Coliseum

Never played HL1 or HL2, does it matter? I played Counterstrike like there was no other, but didn't play the two HL's so am I missing a huge chunk of storyline? Eh, who cares, I'll still get it I guess.

No edit Yay! But anyways, just noticed Orange Box includes HL2, so I'm just missing HL1. I guess I'll read the wiki on that and proceed!

I somehow doubt that reading a Wikipedia article will come even remotely close to actually playing Half-Life. Isn't it discounted to $10 or so on STEAM now?

To wiki's credit I did learn this tidbit rather quickly:

quote:
Steam users who previously purchased Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2: Episode One and then purchased The Orange Box are offered gift subscriptions for their duplicate titles that they may give to another person added on a Steam Friends list.

I would briefly consider getting orange box, only to give away the CS:S subscription to a friend who I wanted to join me online.

Sadly, the Orange Box doesn't come with CS. Only HL2 itself and Episode1 is included and gift-able. You'll have to purchase CS separately through steam, I guess. I'm assuming you can't get it for free with having HL2, but that would be nice.

Good point man! In my mind I must have imagined it as the "Source Premier Pack" which is far more inclusive.

The was a package a couple years back the bundled HL2 and CS:S together for like $24. I missed out on that but now with Orange Box I'm glad I did cause this is way sweeter. Now if only I actually had time for videogames :(

Yeah I know. But I'm too damn busy to play like 10 games. I still have COD4, Assassin's Creed, and Uncharted which i Just started, sitting on my table (From gamefly).

With UT:III coming out, I gotta be picky.

I agree, i'm one of those who complain about games being too long :). Its the reason how I usually end up with 40+ games installed before each reformat, lol.

Double majoring in engineering, 2+ jobs, and social doesn't leave much room for games!

Still gotta beat World in Conflict and Supreme commander, not to mention UT3 and Crysis....my gawd they're beautiful.

Drinking, GF, drinking, work, and drinking. There's no frackin time for games but I do squeeze it in where I can lol. A short game like Heavenly Sword doesn't get beat, and Uncharted which I am 20% finished over 4 days.

Reading the wiki on HL1 and it's Opposing Force and Blue shift siblings, you will be there for a while to get info on pretty much the events and the characters. Trust me, I spent a good portion of one night doing so and this was after I played HL1 and Opposing Force (which I cannot find).

I know HL2 came with HL1, and Orange Box might as well. I'm not sure on that though. You could always acquire a copy through other means. ;)

It's very much worth playing through IMO, even with far more modern games out. You're missing out on a huge chunk of FPS gaming history if you don't play through HL1.

i disagree. sure, if you hadn't played HL1 by 2002 you had missed a huge chunk of history. but all HL1 did was bring immersing gameplay to the shooters for the first time. the graphics sucked even when it was released (quake 2 engine at the time of the quake 3 engine), the sound was pretty low in encoding, replayability wasn't there at all, it was simply 1 story you did once (the expansions, now that was replayability. the exact same story, told differently, hours of fun). and the gameplay... well thats why we remember it.

but since then it's been absorbed into other games and improved. in HL1 it was a big difference having no cut scenes, the moving of the mouths (up and down without teeth) , everything evolving around you while you got the feeling gordon really didn't want to.... now we have very immersive story's with graphics to boot, high quality of sound, and cut-scene's from a first person perspective.

everything that HL1 had is in every FPS you'd call immersive. afterall it was the game that invented it. so all your missing out on is that :P

(don't feel too bad though. when i tell my grandkids in 60 years of HL1, they will laugh at me in the face at the sheer crap i could put up with.)

p.s Half-life was the first game to make me flinch, it actually scared me a bit. Of course I was 13.. but i will never forget the first time I jumped out of my seat.

Sweet. I've been waiting for the Lost Crown for a long time now. It is from the same guy who make the Darkfall games so it should be good stuff if you are into independent pc adventure games.
