The Ferrari racing team seems to appreciate the beneficial partnership that it has created between AMD
AMD has a very interesting partnership with the Ferrari Formula 1 race
team. Not just another logo on the side of the car, the company's
technology is utilized in the pits on race day, in the wind tunnel to
help car design and in the car. During the AMD/Microsoft Tech
Tour last year, AMD also briefly took the time to emphasize that
Ferrari does use AMD technology for a variety of functions. The
crew over at bit-tech take a look at how AMD helps, and some coverage of what Ferrari thinks.
Ferrari
has deployed AMD processors and technology throughout its enterprise.
That ranges from staff using Turion laptops to check their email,
through to massive 400-node Opteron clusters used for modelling fluid
dynamics in the wind tunnel. With such a big-name, glamorous sport to
be associated with, AMD is keen to make sure people know about the
cutting edge work it is doing with Ferrari - because it's interesting
as well as effective.
AMD executive Henri Richard, whom we just had a chat with, is one of the integral organizers of this partnership.
"Paying an extra $500 for a computer in this environment -- same piece of hardware -- paying $500 more to get a logo on it? I think that's a more challenging proposition for the average person than it used to be." -- Steve Ballmer
