Tesla Model 3
The wait is over, Tesla’s mystery announced has passed and Tesla has declared that the Model S, X and upcoming Model 3 sedan will be able to drive themselves safely and without any input from the driver.

Elon Musk said that the Model S, X and upcoming Model 3 sedan "will have the hardware needed for full self-driving capability at a safety level substantially greater than that of a human driver. Eight surround cameras provide 360-degree visibility around the car at up to 250 meters of range. Twelve updated ultrasonic sensors complement this vision, allowing for detection of both hard and soft objects at nearly twice the distance of the prior system."

Elon Musk stated that the new hardware brings level 5 autonomy.  What does that mean? Well, as per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are five different levels for self-driving cars, ranging from “0” which is complete driver control to “5” which is complete autonomy.
Per Elon Musk, Tesla cars will be fitted with a new onboard computer that will be powered by Nvidia.  This onboard computer will be 40 times more powerful than the original onboard computers that Tesla first introduced.

Even though Musk stated that the new hardware will bring level 5 autonomy, it is an option that owners can use if they decide to enable it.  Tesla cautions that if you do enable the autopilot feature, be mindful that there may a delay in features such as active cruise control, collision warning, and emergency breaking while the new hardware is calibrated.
Musk said consumers would have two options when buying a Tesla. "You should be able to go from freeway onramp to exit and maneuver with enhanced Autopilot, then there's full self-driving which will take care of much more complex environments,".

And finally, Tesla’s new Model 3 sedan will be powered by Panasonic batteries. Musk confirmed that Tesla will be working exclusively with Panasonic for the Model 3’s batteries.
