T-Mobile updates its Sidekick line of communication devices with new luxury models
T-Mobile has recently announced two high-end versions of its
Sidekick line of communication devices. The new Sidekick LX and Sidekick Slide
cell phones/messaging devices build off the last generation Sidekick 3 model
with updated features.
The Sidekick LX's most attractive update is the 320x240 QVGA widescreen anti-relfective display technology which is borrowed from the Sharp Aquos line of
LCDs. Sharp is the manufacturer of the LX model as many spy shots of the device
floating around the internet have hinted.
Other features include a 1.3-megapixel camera and a 128MB microSD card to store
photos, video, and music on. Though a supposed launch date of October 24, 2007
has been set for the Sidekick LX, there are reports of auctions popping up on
eBay starting at around $600. We can expect to see the Sidekick LX offered by
T-Mobile for $300 with a 2-year contract. The Sidekick.com
site features a timeline of events leading to the official launch of the
Sidekick LX with a listing of stores
included in the official launch.
The Sidekick Slide contains much of the same functionality of the Sidekick LX
but will be manufactured by Motorola, a newcomer in the Sidekick game, with a
screen that slides up instead of the trademark swivel screen Sidekick users are
used to seeing. The Sidekick Slide is said to launch sometime early November
2007 with a cost of $200 with a 2-year contract with T-Mobile.
In related news, rapper Master P is planning to release a track called Sidekick
on his upcoming album, Hip Hop History, to promote the new devices.
