It now has 15.64 million prepaid customers

T-Mobile has managed to pass Sprint and become No. 1 in the U.S. prepaid wireless sector. According to T-Mobile, it now has 15.64 million prepaid customers, which surpasses Sprint’s 15.19 million customers in the same market. 
 
The big U.S. mobile players are far behind, with AT&T at 11.34 million prepaid customers and Verizon Wireless at 6.04 million prepaid customers.
 
“The good news just keeps on coming for T-Mobile,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile US, Inc. 
 
“The momentum we’re seeing with our T-Mobile and MetroPCS brands is outstanding, and the fact that we’ve blown by everyone to take the No.1 spot in prepaid is icing on the cake. As a matter of fact, I’m going on recordI predict we’ll overtake Sprint in total customers by the end of this year. Not someday. Not next year. This year. Americans are voting with their feet, and they’re joining this Un-carrier revolution by the millions.”
 
T-Mobile added that MetroPCS, which merged with T-Mobile in May of last year, has helped reach today's success. MetroPCS gained 1.2 million new customers since this time last year.
 

T-Mobile has had a pretty good summer so far, with news of surpassing 50 million subscribers total just a week ago. This is great news for T-Mobile, but not its rival Sprint, which has around 53 million customers and likely feels the UnCarrier gaining on its tail.

T-Mobile's Q2 earnings report showed a net profit of $391 million USD with earnings of $0.48 per share -- an increase from a loss of $0.19 in the first quarter of 2014. Total revenue was $7.2 billion USD, up five percent from Q1 2014 and 15 percent year-on-year. 

T-Mobile's UnCarrier program has been underway for a year or so now, offering aggressive pricing, 4G rollout and better plans. 

Some recent UnCarrier offerings include a free unlimited international text and data plan in October 2013 and a "Get Out of Jail Free Card" that pays up to $350 per line in ETFs when switching from Verizon, AT&T or Sprint over to T-Mobile. 
 
More recently, T-Mobile started offering a $100 10GB family plan. The same plan costs around $160 on Sprint, Verizon and AT&T.  

And we can’t close without mentioned that Legere has one again taken to Twitter to taunt the competition. Marcelo Claure was just named as the new Sprint CEO yesterday, but Legere is already getting his digs in:
