Staktek moves its proprietary ArctiCore technology into the big leagues

Staktek has annonced a new reference design for memory modules using its proprietary ArctiCore technology. This high-speed, high-capacity system allows for cost-effective module designs with capacities of up to 8GB.

While capacities of up to 8GB are quite compelling, the other trump card of the memory modules is the ArctiCore system:

ArctiCore is a revolutionary module technology with superior electrical, mechanical and thermal characteristics for enterprise and consumer electronics. ArctiCore utilizes a double-sided, multi-layer flexible circuit with an integrated edge connector folded around a rigid core. This dramatically increases the area available for mounting devices, which enhances thermal management, improves reliability and enables a thinner overall width compared to conventional module technologies.

The Fully Buffered Dual In-Line Memory Modules (FBDIMM) operate at speeds of up to DDR2-800 and samples 2GB and 4GB samples are available now. Availability of 8GB modules is dependent on 2Gb DRAM chips.

So, do these plug in to regular DDR2 slots or what?

no, it is it's own socket and motherboard routing.

FB-DIMM

Yeah for FB-DIMM!

Looking forward to the (somewhat) less restrictive routing requirements compared to DDR technologies. (well, the layout guys are anyway)

I'll take 3 please

yeah itll probably be on intel first... why you ask ? no on die memory controller. haha
