Samsung Ace
Sprint launches new global Smartphone

Sprint and Samsung are the proud parents of the latest entry into the world of Smartphones: the Samsung Ace. The Samsung Ace promises global operability (180 countries) with CDMA and GSM/GPRS networks.

The Ace has a physical footprint of 4.65" x 2.32" x 0.46" and weighs in at just under four ounces. The Ace features a 2.3" display, 1.3MP camera, Bluetooth technology (stereo supported), a QWERTY keyboard and a slide click wheel. Unfortunately, WiFi and GPS functionality are not in the cards with the Ace -- it also incompatible with microSD cards larger than 2GB.

The device runs on the Windows Mobile 6 operating system, so expect to become familiar with mobile versions of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer.

Stylistically, the Ace mimics the design of the older Samsung Blackjack Smartphone, but takes on a taller and narrower appearance. LAPTOP Magazine notes that the build quality of the Ace is excellent and the backlit keyboard is a joy to use.

Sprint is pricing the Samsung Ace at $199.99 after a $100 MIR and two-year service agreement. The price is quite competitive in today's field of Smartphones and should make the Ace an attractive prospect on buyer's shopping lists.

For a more in-depth look at the Samsung Ace, you can take a look at LAPTOP Magazine's review -- they gave the device 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Yeah, it is ugly; and it is a large phone with a small screen.

They did that so they could fit a nice big "Sprint" logo in there.

This is supposed to be a smart phone? With a screen that small reading e-mails will be a pain. I think Palm and RIM had the right designs.

Yeah... I guess looks aren't one of the perks. I wouldn't pay $199 for this... probably not even $50. Plus... Samsung phones have annoyed me in the past with their inability to keep the time when shut off. Since I use my phones as alarm clocks, this is a waste of battery power.

no kidding.. This thing is a joke compared to things like the F700 and the SE XE1 or whatever it's called. Not to mention the iPhone. A Quadband GSM/tri-band UMTS/tri-band CDMA/EVDO iPhone would be so awesome i can't even imagine.

And another...

Looks just like another underwhelming phone to me. It looks like a crapped-down blackjack with a screen that seems too small for the body of the phone. Bleh.

No Wonder

With Phones like this, is there any wonder why the Sprint/Nextel network is going down the tubes?

Well Ok I didn't mention their craptacular service and coverage area, and their No Roaming Charges as long as you are on THEIR network, but go outside their network and you get hit hard with roaming charges...

Yeah, this phone clearly shows they are not understanding what their customers want or they just don't care.

Android OS??

Are there any new phones with Google's Android OS?
