Sony's latest Vaio personal computers are having issues with batteries overheating, which could eventually lead to a battery fire.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Sony is asking customers to stop using its Vaio Fit 11A laptop after three reports of batteries overheating and causing partial burns to the computers.

The first report came from a customer in Japan on March 19, while the second occurred March 30 in Hong Kong and a third was reported April 8 in China.

The battery for the Vaio Fit 11A was made by Panasonic. Panasonic said the batteries for Sony's latest Vaio product were provided under an outsourcing contract, and that it didn't hear of any issues from other clients using these batteries.

However, Panasonic did say that the batteries are customized according to clients' requirements.

Sony said it had sold 25,905 Vaio Fit 11As total globally since it first went on sale in February 2014. The company stopped selling the laptop at the beginning of this month.

Sony said it's developing a program to repair or replace these affected Vaio computers. The company is expected to provide more details within two weeks.

The Vaio Fit 11A is the last version of the Vaio series, since Sony said in February that it will sell its personal computer business. This is part of a new business strategy that includes moving its TV division into a separate subsidiary, since TVs and personal computers are Sony's two troubled units right now.

Sony said it's selling its PC business to Japan Industrial Partners (JIP) back in February. The business transfer means Sony will no longer plan, design, or develop PC products. The manufacturing and sales of Sony PCs will stop in spring of 2014.
