Sony has
been teasing its new tablets for a while now. The tablets are called the Tablet S and the Tablet P; both run the
Android operating system and they are vastly different in execution. The Tablet
S is a single screen device with a 9.4-inch screen and a Tegra 2 processor
running the show. The tablet weighs in at 1.33 pounds and has a design that is
thicker on one side than the other to make use more comfortable. The tablet
also has integrated Wi-Fi.
The Tablet S will come in three models with Wi-Fi only in 16GB and 32GB
styles and a Wi-Fi/3G version in a 16GB capacity. All have the same 9.4-inch
1280x800 resolution screen. The tablets also have Bluetooth, a USB port and IR
remote capability. The rear camera is a 5.11MP unit with a 0.3MP front camera
for video chats. The battery is good for up to eight hours watching video or
listening to music. The 3G version is good for about six hours of use.
The Tablet P is a much different device that folds in the middle and has
a pair of 5.5-inch 1280x480 resolution screens when unfolded. This tablet has
the same front and rear cameras as the Tablet S. It also uses the Tegra 2 processor
and has a USB connector. It comes only in one version that has 4GB of storage, Wi-Fi,
3G, and Bluetooth onboard. The Wi-Fi/3G Tablet S and Tablet P both run Android
3.2 while the Tablet S Wi-Fi only versions run Android 3.1. The battery in the
Tablet P is good for six hours of video playback.
“These devices truly represent the best of everything Sony has to offer,”
said Mike Lucas, senior vice president of Sony Electronics’ Networked
Technology and Services Division. “From hardware to software and services, Sony
Tablet devices embody all our innovations rolled into one.”
Pricing is unknown, the Tablet S will ship at the end of September and
the Tablet P will ship in November.
"Game reviewers fought each other to write the most glowing coverage possible for the powerhouse Sony, MS systems. Reviewers flipped coins to see who would review the Nintendo Wii. The losers got stuck with the job." -- Andy Marken
