The U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission and Sony have released a statement indicating around
69,000 Vaio AC adapters are now being recalled due to a possible
shock hazard.
To date, there have been four
reports of short circuiting AC adapters that could lead to an
"electrical shock hazard to consumers." Each affected
adapter can be returned to Sony in exchange for a new one, the
company said in a statement.
The recalled adapters have the
following adapter number: Sony VGP-AC19V17. Sony sold the
adapters over a four-year span ranging from September 2005 to October
2009, offered with the Sony Vaio VGC-JS2 and VGC-LT series, along
with the VGP-PRFE1 and VGP-PRBX1 docking stations.
Anyone
injured is urged to report the incident to the CPSC, with the group
noting no injuries or incident reports were filed in the United
States. The Sony-CPSC phone number is (877)-361-4481.
Anyone
with an affected adapter is urged too turn off the PC, unplug it and not use the adapter again.
