"One of these days I gotta get organezized."

Today, Sony Corporation announced a major executive-level reorganization "intended to facilitate the next phase of Sony's transformation into the world's leading provider of networked entertainment and solutions," the company said in a press release.

After the reorganization, Sony will function as two key groups: the "Consumer Products & Services Group," which will handle all consumer electronics and networked services; and the "Professional & Device Solutions Group," which will cater to B2B, component, and semiconductor business.

Sir Howard Stringer, Sony Corp.'s CEO, chairman, and president, will remain at the helm of the company. Meanwhile, Kazuo Hirai, currently executive vice president, will head up the Consumer Products & Services Group, while Hiroshi Yoshioka, a current executive deputy president, will lead the other new wing.

"This operational realignment will help accelerate Sony's growth and innovation by strategically focusing on our cross-company goals and aggressively utilizing our technological strengths, with the goal of providing great entertainment experiences and innovative solutions to customers around the world," Stringer said. "The new responsibilities of Kazuo Hirai and Hiroshi Yoshioka will enable us to concentrate on and, as appropriate, quickly shift resources to, areas where they will have the greatest impact on our overall business."

The changes have already been approved by Sony's Board of Directors earlier in the day and are set to go into effect April 1.

What the changes will mean for Sony's ambitions in the tablet and smartphone market remains to be seen.

if the first group made a copy of the second group's rootkit for itself, we could call that infringement. - sascha von bornheim, not a sony lawyer.

I guess in this case you could say the first group steals just one rootkit.

keep crying.

Cuz it doesn't affect anybody,

I don't buy CDs, I buy them online drm free mp3.
I don't give a crap about Linux on Ps3, cuz its worst than running it on my pos old PC.
Anybody who cries for this should see, you don't deserve to post for thee.

agreed. I bought mostly Sony before the rootkit fiasco.
After: none.
And when everyone asks me for opinions on what to buy, all I say is, NOT SONY, and explain why. Unfortunately no one else seems to care, and buy Sony stuff anyway. Most people dont care about whether a company is ethical, they figure its the governments problem (until they realize it was their OWN computer infected with a rootkit...)

Good move

If sony split into one division being the part that makes music and video and the other being what sony was when it started, THEN progress might be made, with the one not dictating arcane crap like rootkits and DRM on their own electronics.

By the way the split is described that didn't happen.

Price fixing

What division contributes all the money for the fines that Sony pays every year for price fixing somewhere in the world. I can only guess its coming from the high prices they charge for their goods. Possibly in the odd year when they don't get fined the executives get a bigger bonus from the slush fund.
