Sony congratulates itself on a PS3 well done with a round of promotions

Sony today announced that Jack Tretton has been named president and chief executive officer for SCEA. Tretton was formerly SCEA executive vice president and co-chief operating officer. He replaces SCEA veteran Kaz Hirai who will be promoted to president and group chief operating officer of SCEI.

"I am determined to build upon the momentum that Kaz and the entire SCEA staff has developed for the entire PlayStation family of products here in the US over the years," said Tretton. "Moving forward, we will remain focused on the continued market leadership of the PlayStation brand, driving consumer demand for the new PS3, and existing platforms such as PSP and PS2, which continue to excel in the marketplace."

Kaz Hirai, who had been with SCEA since 1995, will now oversee the global operations of SCEI, filling the role previously held by Ken Kutaragi, who will be appointed chairman and group CEO for SCEI.

The company also announced the appointment of Akira Sato, member of the board of directors, as Vice Chairman, and David Reeves, President and CEO and Co-COO of SCEE, as Deputy President of SCEI in addition to his current responsibility at SCEE. Masaru Kato will remain in his current position as Deputy President and Group CFO.

All posts will be effective starting December 1, 2006.

With the new leadership...

Ok, so new people at the helm. Not sure if this will redirect SCE(I, A, E, J, etc) in a new direction...but I hope the first thing they should change is: LISTEN TO CONSUMERS' DEMANDS!!!

They can start listening to PS, PS2 and PS3 owners so they won't be doing something that hurt their business for PS4...

And stop treating customers like dirt. That should apply to Sony as a whole.

Awesome news, mainly that this should mean less of Kuturagi in the public and more Kaz. I like most sony products, but Ken sure puts the most arrogant face on the company of any who would fill his shoes. As long as Kaz doesn't say all the retarded things like Ken has, this will be a good move.

Like that needs any help. While you're out there hyping up a product no one can buy, mind getting some software developers psyched (and equipped) to make Cell-coded games worth buying?

My interview with Kaz

Soooo..... I've been meaning to talk to you Kaz, about Everquest 2. Your customer support, yeah, non-existant. Maybe if you actually listened to your loyal costumers who've been playing since EQ1, they wouldn't invest 8+ years into your games and then up and leave because SOE support won't fix their broken game.

Moving on to the PS3, I realize it's a lot of new technology and it's expensive for Sony to make, but I don't care if you make it out of pure gold or leftover human remains, I just want it to be fun AND affordable, now, not in 10 years when the Xbox 5000 is out. Can you handle that? Take notes from Nintendo.

That could be said about most major companies though, not just sony.
