Sony adds the VGX-XL71S to its VAIO X HTPC line in Japan

According to Engadget Sony has added another HTPC to their VAIO X line up the VGX-XL71S. The new VAIO X features a 2.8GHz Pentium D 920, NVIDIA GeForce 6200, up to 2GB of RAM, up to 1.5TB of storage and a dual layer DVD+RW.  However, by far the most notable feature of the VGX-XL71S is its support for DTCP-IP.

DTCP-IP or Digital Transmission Content Protection over Internet Protocol is a specification that allows digital content to be securely transmitted over a network to multiple devices while still maintaining content providers distribution wishes. DTCP-IP also prohibits DTCP encrypted content to be shared outside of the local area network.

The VAIO VGX-XL71S also features all the standard audio and video IO ports as well as HDMI an ISDB-T compatible digital tuner and two terrestrial antennas. The VGX-XL71S is available in Japan for a little under $1,900.

*sigh*

Another one which haven't bothered to read anything but a quote out of context. SONY have not said that the "PS3 would make PCs obsolete"!

What they have said is that they don't need a PC to compete with Microsoft's "XBOX Live anywhere" concept.

I don't know what is worse these days. The many sites fishing for hits by writing stories instead of doing honest reporting or the fools not knowing that you must be critical of what you read.

It's just more over-priced, under-speced Sony crap.

(this coming from (unfortunately) an owner of 3 Vaio's)

What do you guys just cut and paste these thoughless replies to every Sony news article? I mean, I get that when you're trying to raise your post count in a forum but you gotta come with something better than this.

Yeah, pretty much.

is the DTCP-IP HDPC?
By ForumMaster on 6/15/2006 11:03:45 AM , Rating: 2
is it? they didn't say whether that is the HDPC which i doubt it is. the HDMI output doesn't necessarily include HDPC. do they have a chip that provides the key for it?

HDCP is strictly point to point. i.e. meaning its from your video source to the display source. DTCP-IP is totally different.
