Pre-order now at Sony Style
Interest
in 3D TVs is booming and the number of TVs that are coming to the
market continues to grow. One of the major electronics makers that
will be peddling 3D TVs and home theater systems is Sony. Sony is
expecting big sales for its 3D home theater gear and HDTVs in general
and has recently met with Samsung to discuss securing
more LCD panel supplies for its TV offerings.
Sony
has announced today that its 3D
home theater gear is now up for pre-order on its Sony Style
website. The gear available includes the new line of 3D ready Bravia
HDTVs and Blu-ray players. All of the 3D gear from Sony will start
coming to market in July.
Sony
has also announced some good news for buyers who have already
purchased the BDP-S470 and BDP-S570 Blu-ray players and the BDV-E570
and BDV-E770W home theater systems. These devices are getting a free
firmware update that will allow them to support 3D Blu-ray
films.
“3D is revolutionizing the entertainment industry and
only Sony is involved in every stage of the ecosystem,” said Chris
Fawcett, vice president of Sony’s television business. “Leveraging
deep 3D expertise from the company’s theatrical and professional
groups, Sony products are optimized to offer the best possible 3D
home entertainment experience.”
Among the Sony 3D TVs up for
pre-order are the BRAVIA XBR-LX900 HDTV with its integrated 3D
transmitter and two sets of active shutter glasses selling for
$5,000. Other sets like the BRAVIA XBR-HX909 and KDL-HX800 series are
3D ready, but require the separate purchase of a 3D transmitter and
active shutter glasses. The glasses sell for $150 per pair and the
sync transmitter is $50.
The Bravia 3D TVs will also ship with
3D Blu-ray titles including Cloudy
with a Chance of Meatballs
and Deep
Sea.
A voucher for 3D PS3 titles including WipEout
HD and
Super
StarDust HD
will be offered. Sony XBR-HX909 3D ready TVs will sell for $3,500 to
$4,000 depending on screen size and will need the glasses and
transmitter. The HX800 series will sell for $2,100 to $3,400. Other
new offerings include the STR-DN1010 audio/video receiver, the
HT-CT350 and HT-CT150 3.1 channel sound bars, and the HT-SF470 5.1
channel home theater system that are all 3D ready.
