Scott McNealy has been Sun's CEO since it was founded

Jonathan Schwartz will now act as Sun's new CEO
After founding Sun and serving as CEO for 22 years, Scott McNealy passes the torch

After 22 years at the helm of Sun Microsystems, Scott McNealy has stepped down as the CEO of the company. In his place, Jonathan Schwartz will take over the role of CEO while McNealy will be acting as Sun's new Chairman of the Board.

"Sun has been a labor of love for me for since 1982 and it has been an honor and privilege to serve as its CEO for the past 22 years. We've helped shape the industry as it is today and the opportunities before us are immense. I look forward to a smooth transition and to working with Jonathan on Company strategy in my continued role as chairman," said McNealy.

Previous to Sun, Schwartz was President and CEO of LightHouse Design, which was later acquired by Sun. After the acquisition, Schwartz held numerous positions in the company, including executive vice president of its software division,. Sun made Schwartz its President and Chief Operating Officer in 1996 and has been doing quite well since then. According to Sun, McNealy will be focusing on government and academic projects, two industries that Sun has a strong presence in.

Scott McNealy founded Sun back in 1982 along with several other colleagues.

Hey wait..I read about Sun in a book before....I think it provides heat to the earth or something like that and planets go around it....

Lol, just involved in pretty much every high end unix enviornment and helped start network computing more then any other company. Not to mention devloping java technology and helping to bring a cheap 1u opteorn server ($745) to life with enterprise support.

Ya, there are that Sun, the quiet unyielding sun sitting in the corner, doing it's job quietly.

I didn't think they didn't know what Sun did... but certainly in their posts (ie your post) they tried to trivialize the roll Sun played, plays and will play in the market.

Nothing major. But just so you know you still missed the point. The joke (at least as I got it anyway) was saying "Who's Sun?" not to trivalize them, but because all you read about is Apple/Microsoft everything...THAT is why people were joking about it. Not actually making fun of Sun, but how the tech news reports only on the "Popular brand names"...
