The Radeon X1950 Pro gets a younger sibling

Sapphire today announced its latest Sapphire X1950 GT graphics card based on the AMD ATI Radeon X1950 GT graphics processor. The Sapphire X1950 GT takes on graphics cards based on NVIDIA’s previously released GeForce 7900GS with MSRP pricing set at $179. NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS based graphics cards sell for as low as $169.99 or $149.99 after mail-in rebate.

The Sapphire X1950 GT features similar specifications as to ATI Radeon X1950 Pro cards including 36 pixel shaders, 12 pixel pipelines, 256-bit memory interface and CrossFire compatibility. Clock speeds reduced to 500 MHz core and 1200 MHz memory compared to 575 MHz core and 1380 MHz memory of ATI Radeon X1950 Pro-based graphics cards.

Sapphire X1950 GT graphics cards will only be available with 256MB of GDDR3 instead of the 256MB and 512MB offerings of its ATI Radeon X1950 Pro-based offerings. Other notable features of the Sapphire X1950 GT include dual dual-link DVI outputs with HDCP support and TV-out. The Sapphire X1950 GT is only available in PCIe x16.

Expect the Sapphire X1950 GT to hit retail later this week with pricing around $179.

Folks should wait for DX10 cards at this point in time. 8600 series is due out in Feb, correct?

Unless those folks have read the various benchmarks for different games under Vista vs. XP.

At least for now yes.

Tom's Hardware made nice review about this: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/29/xp-vs-vista...

TH did some testing, showing Vista is a bit slower than XP if at all noticable, except for UT2K4 which showed a huge drop, but that may be an issue with drivers (hopefully).

The article stated this was due to lack of OpenGL support in Vista, so the performance decrease was expected.

I believe that also only applied to ATI cards at the moment. As far as Vista gaming in general goes, other than OpenGL, ATI showed hardly any decrease in performance in Vista while Nvidia took a larger hit.

Can anyone give me 5 game titles that are DX10 and will be released by Feb.? I don't see a need for this hardware yet. Espescially with the price premiums these cards are commanding. I'm all for the advancement and implementation of new and advanced hardware/software, but I think people are jumping on this bandwagon a bit early. Not trying to flame, just trying to find out if I'm on the wrong page here.

Oh, I totally agree, but if someone is buying a card NOW, or soon I should say, even at the $150 price point, it's still a smart move to get DX10. I mean, you're probably going to keep it for at least 12 months. And in that time, I'm sure it could come in handy.

which is odd, because the sapphire 1950pro 512mb is 189 after rebate from our friends at newegg... double ram, slightly higher clocks...
Dont get me wrong, I wish success for both ATI/AMD and Sapphire, but those price points are a little close for such an obvious advantage...

Retail vs actual.
Actual prices are usually lower than MSRP.
Expect the X1950GT to be a bit cheaper than $179

It better be cheaper than $179 because the 7900GS is as fast or faster than the X1950Pro but for only $150 after MIR.

No. It isn't. Only when overclocked.

I guess it isn't as bad as the two fools that regularly post here that global warming is a natural occurrence. (lol)

Of course it's natural. When greenhouse gases are increasingly released into the atmosphere, regardless of the source of those gases, the atmosphere quite naturally heats up.

;) (sorry, couldn't resist)

First off, why would you even post such flamebait? Second, why would post such flamebait with a name like, "TheLiberal"? Third, there is no evidence to support the hypothesis of anthropological global warming, so why would people who don't buy into it be the idiots? Isn't that, in itself, idiotic?

No point whatsoever

I hope you guys have seen the benchmarks on the 8800Gtx just by itself? it surpasses 2 count em. Two 7900gtx In sli. Now thats performance and quality hardwired into one package. the benchies on the 8800gtx in sli is really high. I plan on saving my money on this kind of config since this is power you cannot come across at all with an ati card.
