Nokia drops like a rock in the Chinese market

China is one of the fastest-growing markets in the technology world. The country supports an enormous population and its economy is growing rapidly, leading to a number of people buying devices such as smartphones, computers, and tablets.

When it comes to smartphones, Samsung was the most popular brand in China during 2012. That is surprising considering that Chinese manufacturers are often the most popular within the country. Samsung reportedly almost tripled its sales in China during 2012 according to Strategy Analytics.

Samsung Electronics sold 30.06 million smartphones in China during 2012, which is a massive increase from 10.9 million smartphones it sold during 2011. Samsung had 17.7% of the Chinese market during 2012, which represents a 5.3% gain from 2011.

2012 was the first year Samsung has been at the top of the Chinese smartphone market since its first entry in 2009.

The numbers also showed that Nokia saw its market share within China decline significantly during 2012, plummeting to only 3.7% compared to 29.9% in 2011. Lenovo was in the second place spot with 13.2% of the Chinese market and Apple was in third with 11% of the market. Fourth-place was another Chinese company, Huawei, with 9.9% of the market followed by the Chinese firm Coolpad with 9.7% of the market to round out the top five.

Lenovo was in the second place spot with 13.2% of the Chinese market

I was looking around on the internet for Lenovo smartphones, so I could get an idea of the range and specs of what they are offering, and came across article an from August last year in which Lenovo's CEO says they now sell more smartphones than they do PCs.
This puts Lenovo in a similar position as Apple, that is of having successfully made a transition from being a top supplier of PC type computers to being a top supplier of smartphones (albeit in one maret).
My guess is Lenovo wont' be content with supplying just the Chinese market for long.
