Samsung S3 is a major success

When it comes to the most popular Android smartphones on the market, Samsung traditionally has held that honor. Samsung has announced that it has sold more than 20 million Galaxy S III smartphones in the device's first 100 days of availability.
The S3 launched at the end of May and according to Samsung the device has sold at rate of about 200,000 units per day. The S3 reached the 20 million sold mark about three times faster than its predecessor the S2, and about six times faster than the original Galaxy S. Samsung offered details breaking down the 20 million number by country.
According to the manufacturer 6 million of the sales came in Europe, 4.5 million units were sold in Asia, 4 million units were sold in North America, and 2.5 million were sold in Korea. While sales of the S3 reached the 20 million mark quicker than the two previous S devices, the S3 still has a way to go to match raw sales numbers for its predecessors.
So far, the S2 has sold 28 million units, and the original S has sold 24 million units as of this June.
A Samsung spokesperson said, "Galaxy S III is for non-technical people to evolve and in smart phones the global smartphone market. [Samsung] is making a few changes to the [smartphone] and will try our best to provide a special experience for consumers to differentiate continuous innovation through the creation of products in the future."

I'm waiting for Tony to say "That is no big deal as Apple will sell that many within the first minute of availability".

I don't understand why people get so butthurt about smartphones to begin with. It's like people become personally and emotionally vested in the product they purchase, then they must defend it as if someone was attacking their mom.

Well we know that is true because anything square with rounded corners can't be a smartphone or Apple will file 88 lawsuits against them.

" Lets face it not all smartphones can be iPhones."

Thank goodness. The iPhone is small and underperforming when compared to what else is available ;)

It's the person's inability to understand the concept that other people's needs and preferences differ from theirs.

iFan or AndroidFan are insecure in their choice of phone. They want external confirmation that they made the right choice. So anyone who chose a different phone stokes their insecurity. To quell it, they set about trying to show why those people made the "wrong" choice. If they can convince themselves that those people were stupid or deluded or uninformed, they their phone choice doesn't threaten their security anymore.

The mechanism affects AndroidFan less because there are so many different choices of Android phones. The process of selecting an Android phone forces them to acknowledge that different people have different preferences. iFan OTOH only has one current model and a few older models, so is put in a greater state of insecurity since it's highly unlikely that all the features of the iPhone exactly matched what they were looking for in a phone.

If you're secure in the knowledge that your choice of phone was the right one, you won't give a damn what phone other people use. You evaluated your needs, you found which phone fit those needs best, end of story. What other people say won't change that evaluation.

That is the root of it. Then there's a lot of noise that comes about as people who made a different choice defend against the insecure fan's silly forum argument that the one phone they chose is best for everyone. Ask yourself this: Can you see yourself recommending a different phone from yours to a good friend? If not, then the problem is you, not them.

Not just the product, but the entire company. And what makes it even more crazy, is the fact that the company doesn't give 2 shits about the rabid, drooling tool that defends them tooth and nail.

I expect you to post more uneducated Apple biased drivel like above.

You do have a very interesting view of things. Your world must be an odd place, worshiping one company like that and letting it cloud your objectivity and view of other tech companies, the products they make, and the people that buy them.

I dont hate Apple. It may seem that way to you because you love them do much and I prefer Android, but that preference is based on current products and specs and the benefots of the OS itself over IOS... I do hate the 2 faced lawsuits, but not them or their products. I just post counter to you because you are way too overbearingly Apple biased.

Your "hard on" for Apple makes you great comic relief though... I'll give you that. It's like watchign a clown perform.

Find a hobby or get a dog. At least a dog can love you back. Apple is a company that makes products, and your fetishism and projection towards these products is incredibly unhealthy and obsessive. If you talked to a therapist you can get yourself an official diagnosis. Everyone is telling you the same thing, guess why?

Crazy old man.

I believe Google's purchase of Motorola Mobility was not simply for their patents but to reassert control over Android. When Google released the Nexus 7 it was the first device with Android JB. I bought one not just for the price but for JB and the promise of future Android improvements via updates.

I can't say which way Samsung will go with their OS but I don't expect them to separate from the Android trunk. To differentiate too much means taking additional programming burden on themselves. Additionally, their unequivocal rejection of webOS shows they don't want their own OS.

Rather, I see Samsung offering more phones with Windows 8. Unlike you I see MS gradually carving a stronger presence in the mobility market. MS may have started late but they have the resources to correct their stumbling. I expect Samsung to use MS as a protective patent shield for this line of their products.

If Apple becomes any more successful and grows any larger, there will just be less competition for them to copy from. Eventually they'll hit a glass-ceiling and.

Android has failed in tablets and I don't expect much from Windows 8 in tablets (except possibly in the enterprise market), so I expect Apple to dominate the tablet market and for the tablet market to eclipse the desktop market.

If by failed, you mean regarding market that note, apple has failed in the pc market for the past 20 years.

The only fools are those that like to butt into articles that have nothing to do with their love interest in mind. Now where in the article did it say anything about Apple? It was Apple free but yet, a fool has to interject about Apple. I wouldn't be surprised that you're interjecting your love for Apple in the Nokia/MS articles, but I don't read about those because I have no interest in those products.

If your love interest is with Apple please stay with Apple related articles, and stop posting your sonnets for Apple and stay away from non-Apple articles.

It's a pretty simple answer. They identify with an object. The higher the amount of identification the more "emotional" people become towards critisism of their "loved" product. The object becomes replacement for self-worth and in the end of their own ego. It's pretty sad to see people fight about which one is better and to see that the firms aren't caring one bit about this single user. I have seen this in times of Commodore/Atari, Nintendo/Sega, Sony/MS, MS/Apple and so on and so forth. People should ask themselves why they want to defend a product in the first place. Life is wonderful so who cares about a product.

Humans love to divide themselves into groups and then fight eachother. Even when the differences are tiny, and not limited to computers either, look at: Ford vs Chevrolet, American cars vs imports, Catholics vs Protestants, Shiites vs Sunnis, Jews vs Muslims, bloods vs crips.

The people on both sides of all of those conflicts really have more in common with eachother than they do differences.

And if you're thinking "but that's just a fictional story!"

Most of the air of superiority of one group or the other emerges from the simply act of classification, not due to any actual superiority.

According to many people here, Tony has stated that Apple saved his life. They aren't talking as in he was in an emergency and needed a phone but in a way where a product made him feel that life was still worth living.

I have no problem in liking a product but making them out to be the almighty and unable to do any wrong is just beyond belief. I am neutral when it comes to smart phones as I don't own one and have ever only used my Nexus 7 as my only smart device. I just can't stand Apple and their business practices.

"Tony has stated that Apple saved his life. They aren't talking as in he was in an emergency and needed a phone but in a way where a product made him feel that life was still worth living"

That is exactly it. Someone would have to have no life to spend so much time on the internet defending a company and their products. I love smartphones too, and I love my S3, but I would drop it in a heartbeat if something better comes along. Most people do like me, they look at the options and features and price of what is available and make a purchasing decision based on those attributes. Tony, will buy the Apple product and then make justifications for his purchase.

Maybe because they think of themselves as being so cool with their chosen phone, but feel as though that coolness factor gets taken down a notch when other people don't instantly recognize it, by their choice of another phone?? With some people, it's fast cars....with some people, it's phones.

Personally, after seeing the foolishness of Apple's recent attacks in court, due to ridiculous patents they've been granted, and claims they've made, has turned me off completely from their products. If you can't compete in the market solely with the product you offer, and have to resort to using the law firm of "Dewey, Cheatum & Howe" to sue everyone else out of existance, then I believe you're not worth consideration of my hard earned money.

Other folks might disagree with that, but they're the lemmings that have turned Apple into a gazillion dollar business, haven't they??

RE: Good for them
By Motoman on 9/6/2012 4:09:43 PM , Rating: 2
That's because fanboys aren't buying phones for any reasons that have anything to do with rational decision-making fitness-for-purpose, price/feature ratio, etc.

They buy it based on a purely emotional imperative, in the case of Apple, in order to purchase a personal identity and be one with the rest of the herd.

When you challenge a religion, all they can do is resort to violence, because they have no rational thought to rebut your challenge with.

Apple is a religion.
