The Samsung SGH-T509 will compete with the Motorola RAZR and SLVR

The third largest cell phone maker in the world, Samsung, hopes to make a big splash in the US with one of its newest phones.  The company has unveiled the t509 which will be the thinnest cell phone on the market in the U.S.  The Samsung T509 will be released in May, designed specifically for the T-Mobile wireless service.  Some of the features of the T509 will include the following:  a color display to watch videos, integrated Bluetooth wireless technology, instant messaging and an external battery slot.  The slim phone is 9.8 millimeters thick, compared to the 11.5-millimeter thick Motorola SLVR.  According to Reuters:

Samsung will unveil the new phone and other models at the annual CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas this week in a bid to boost its market share in the United States, where it competes with Nokia and LG Electronics for second place, according to the Gartner research group.

The popular Motorola RAZR cell phone shows that there is a high demand for ultra-thin cell phones in the United States.  MobileMedia has a few more specifications for the device.

Big deal. Who cares about size? I need good reception. As long as the damn thing fits in my pocket, I could care less how big it is. I just want better reception when inside my home.

Yeah, it's just a fashion statement. They're just trying to stay competitive with the rave of Motorola and their sliver and razr fads. Personally I don't care too much about the looks, I admit, theres some sharp lookingn phones out there, but I want functionality over looks, like the other poster said, hope this has good battery life. =)

I hate having a bulky phone in my pocket, it drives me nuts.

That said, I don't want a cell phone that is basically an internet capable PDA as well. I want one with a black/white screen, phone book, and good battery life.

Why don't they sell phones like that?

they're called old phones!!! :P

some old motorola's are rated to run 11 hours talk time

but most people are content to have around 5 hours talk time and all the bells and whistles (dont get me wrong, I personally hate phones with camera's)

Will be small enough to carry in my jeans pocket without being too annyoing. Thats what really matters to me. Battery life, reception, and portability... what else is there? Hope it comes to Sprint soon.

I bought an A900 about two weeks ago and I have to say, it's a pretty nice phone. The only thing I don't like is that, although it can play AAC's and MP3s, you can't use them as ringtones.

I don't like phones where the keys are constantly exposed. It's as simple as that. I don't care how slim it is or what features it has, if it's got exposed keys it's not on my list of phones to consider.

Power Adapter

The port for the power adapter on Samsung phones makes me angry. It's the perfect size for change in my pocket to fit inside and short out the phone - shutting it off at random times.




No Frills Cellphone

Motorola developed a standard, no frills cell phone that is quite popular in Europe, but it is not sold or marketed in the US. There's no camera, no color display, but it has great reception and the battery life is fantastic. It's the C116. The link to the article I read was:

It costs only $39...no plan needed. There is a color display model...the C155. Not sure what the pricetag on that is...
