Samsung Gear Solo will launch at IFA 2014 in Berlin

The smartwatch field is starting to heat up. In the past few months, we’ve seen the launch of two Android Wear-based entries: the Samsung Gear Live and the LG G Watch. The Motorola Moto 360 should be upon us sometime this summer while Apple is widely expected to announce its own smartwatch offering at an October event.
Meanwhile, Samsung is also readying the new Gear Solo smartwatch that will join the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. While the new Gear Solo will run Tizen like the two aforementioned smartwatches, it will actually be able to make and receive calls as well. The Gear Solo features a SIM slot and will operate on 3G networks instead of new, faster LTE networks.

Given that this will be a smartwatch capable of operating like a cell phone, the first question that we must ask is “How long will the battery last?” The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are rated at “2 to 3 days” of typical use, but we’re more the certain that having a cellular radio onboard will cut heavily into the rated battery life.
The Gear Solo will reportedly launch next month at IFA 2014 with the Galaxy Note 4.

How dumb would you feel if you bought the Samsung Gear 2 in April 2014 (launch date) and then have this come out only 5 months later.

This watch requires its own SIM card, which means it also requires its own plan. The market who would buy this already has a phone... and I really can't see anyone trading in a smartphone for a neutered watch thingy.

I can understand the short lived gimmickery but do people want to be Dick Tracy on an ongoing basis?

The reasons you listed as well as the watch being ugly as sin are reasons why this things is DOA.

Samsung is just putting on crap right now because when they copy Apple's watch, they'll just say "see, we came up with a watch first, we're innovative".

Whats wrong with companies continually making newer stuff ??

Dont see anyone complain about the exact same 2013 vs 2014 Toyota Camry and most other cars they are yearly dated reguardless of real changes to cars each year.
w item higher price for it.

Most companies revamp tweak, resell same stuff fast as possible to make money.

most companies selling electronics type items, push to market time line is typically 3month/6monht/1 year framing cycles for 98% of the electronics in the entire market place.

Every company tries to make the best and improve their items, for better sales 24/7, so timeline for a better gadget this week or next month to next year is never ending, since modern industrialization has occurred around the globe.

Hey, thanks, I actually hadn't seen that one debunked, and hadn't realized it to be an urban myth.

But I still get to complain about the price of new vehicles going up!

Well, I'm assuming it will be an unlocked device, so you could always just SIM-swap your SIM into this from your phone.
