The original Kindle Fire's price will supposedly be cut to $150

It is rumored that Amazon may launch two new Kindle Fire models later this year while cutting the price of its original tablet entry.

According to Max Wang at DigiTimes, who spoke with sources from a supply chain, Amazon is looking to launch a new 7-inch tablet for $199 during the third quarter of the fiscal year. This new tablet is expected to have a better screen resolution than the original at 1280x800.

Amazon will also supposedly release a 10-inch version of its tablet during the fourth quarter of 2012 or first quarter of 2013. The price for this is currently unknown.

An 8.9-inch updated Kindle Fire was reportedly in the works as well, but DigiTimes said production of this version has already been halted.

With so many new models expected to be released this year, Amazon is also supposedly cutting the price of its original Kindle Fire to $150.

While Amazon has confirmed none of the above yet, it would make sense that Amazon would release a new tablet annually after the success it saw last holiday season with its first Kindle Fire.

The first Kindle Fire was released last November, and Amazon managed to move 4.7 million units total in Q4 2011. This was nearly one-third of the volume of Apple, which shipped 15.4 million tablets in Q4 2011. This was a huge feat, considering Apple has been king of the tablets since the iPad's initial release in 2010.

In April 2012, it was reported that Amazon's revenue increased 34 percent to $13.18 billion in Q1 2012 with the Kindle Fire nabbing half of the Android tablet market.

Tell Max Wang it's obvious that Amazon will release a new tablet late 2012/early 2013. They have to in order to stay competitive with an onslaught of cheap tablets coming out.

and i hope it does come in 10 inches. i got a cheap firesale touchpad which is great, and i can't see myself ever using anything smaller. if they make a 10 inch kindle i might ditch my touchpad for it.

You need 10 inches, if you want to stick it to the Nook.

take what they did with the kindle fire
increase screen to 10",
boost to 1 gig ram
boost storage to 16gig(or keep 8gig and add an microsd card slot)
and keep the price under 250 and it'll blow last years kindle fire sales out of the water(if they can do it at 199 watch out apple.

android side of the system:
either upgrade their custom android to ICS based with a 3.0 based kernel, if they keep the ti4430,make sure hardware acceleration (ducati) cores are activated otherwise if they switch to the nvidia tegra3 make sure whatever it has for hardware video acceleration is active and working correctly.

(if i remember correctly stock kindle fire does not use the ducati core built into the ti4430-the cm9 mod version does)
otherwise make sure hardware acceleration via the other cores in the 4430 are activated. works for videos.

Don't forget bluetooth. 4.0 would be nice, but 2.1 would suffice.
