New set top box promises to be the fastest ever from Roku

If you're in the market for a new settop box, Roku has announced a new offering this week called the Roku 3. The manufacturer says that the new Roku 3 is its fastest and most powerful streaming player so far, and it replaces the Roku 2 XS in the lineup. The device promises a new interface and a remote that has a built-in headphone jack for wireless, private listening.

Roku says that the new box is over five times faster than its previous players allowing users to start their favorite movies and TV shows faster than ever. The Enhanced Remote has a headphone port and includes in-ear headphones allowing users to watch streaming content at night without disturbing others.

The system automatically switches to the headphones when the user mutes their TV. The interface for the new system has been streamlined for quicker access to your favorite channels and greater visibility. Roku says that the new interface is particularly effective if users have a lot of channels installed.

Roku Search and the Channel Store are integrated into the home screen in the new user interface and both have been redesigned. There are over 750 channels available on the Roku service. Those own older Roku streaming media players will get the new interface that debuts on the Roku 3 as a free software update in April. The update will be offered for all Roku 2, HD, LT, and Streaming Stick media players.

The Roku 3 is available for purchase right now for $99.99 through,,, and other online retailers. It will also be available in stores through major retail sellers starting in April.
