Judas Priest's "Screaming For Vengeance" to be completely in Rock Band

Furthering its claim of being just as much of a music platform as it is a videogame, Harmonix and MTV Games today announced that Judas Priest’s 1982 classic, Screaming For Vengeance will be the first complete album to be added to the Rock Band downloadable content catalog, slated to hit April 22 on Xbox Live Marketplace and April 24 on the PlayStation Store.

Each track will be available for $1.99 per track (160 Microsoft Points) or $14.99 (1200 Microsoft Points) for the album. The complete tracklist may be found on the official website.

Full album releases were promised by Harmonix before Rock Band even hit the market, but it has taken five months before the first release. Harmonix's CEO Alex Rigopulos told Kotaku in an interview, “...a big reason that it's taken us so long to get them to market is that the actual technical delivery of the assets required for any one song - they're actually pretty complicated. You're often dealing with masters for the older stuff that were recorded on analog. Often it takes a long time to even locate those masters. The right takes and the right edits have to be found, and in some cases old gear that's not in use anymore has to be resuscitated to transfer the stuff to digital.”

While $1.99 is the standard price for songs, the $14.99 price isn’t the standard one for albums. “There's not going to be a standard album pricing. It's going to be a function of how many songs are included in the album...essentially there will be a volume discount applied,” explained Rigopulos.

Harmonix also revealed that the next full album to be released in May will be the self-titled album from The Cars , with The Pixies' Doolittle to hit in June.

I thought Nirvana's Nevermind was going to be first...

Anyway, I would love to see Foo Fighters Colour/Shape.

I could go for Green Day if they leave out American Idiot, which is utter garbage in my opinion.

As for Nevermind, that would have been great, one of the best albums of all time.

Queen would be amazing - songs everyone at the party can get in on.

Ten? At least a few people have heard of Judas Priest. It seems like something like Tool, Godsmack, Metallica, Rob Zombie, or Rage Against the Machine would have been a better modern choice for this game if you want something different. But, Ten? I've never even heard of them.

Well, if you would look at the name of the game, it's "Rock Band" rather than "Alternative Band." That being said, I believe they made a decent choice.

I don't know if it is technically a sin to pray for Judas Priest to be released on rock band but that is what I have been doing since I bought the game. This isn't the album I would have chosen but I am happy none the less. Anyone who doesn't get a kick out singing Screaming for Vengance is a lost cause.

I'm surprised with all the negativity towards this announcement. Personally I can't think of a better album to start off with. Screaming for Vengeance is metal perfection. I'll be picking this up ASAP.

Get up with the times. Modern metal is defined as "bunch of long-haired tatooed guys using electric guitars"

Pixies FTW

Christ, you mean I'll be able to impersonate Black Francis' yelps and screams and have my friends play along to one of the greatest alternative albums of all time? Well, honestly, I'd prefer Surfer Rosa, but they sold me on this game now.

Agreed indeed. Surfer Rosa is a classic. The inclusion of Pixies has me sold. While it says Doolittle won't launch until June, don't they already have a few pixies tracks included with the standard box? Coulda swore I saw some 8yr old butchering Gouge Away at Sams Club months ago.
