Oracle Chief Larry Ellison has been supportive of Mr. Hurd throughout the embarrassing drama
It's
good to have friends in high places. Former Hewlett-Packard
Company CEO Mark Hurd may be out of a job for now, but he may soon
find a new home at Oracle. Oracle is headed by Mr. Hurd's close
friend Oracle Corporation CEO Larry Ellison. Mr. Ellison has
reportedly reached out to Mr. Hurd and offered
him an executive position with Oracle.
For those
unfamiliar with Mr. Hurd's strange story, it began when
he resigned early
last month following allegations that he submitted inaccurate expense
reports to cover up a "close personal relationship"
with contractor Jodie Fisher.
Ms. Fisher reportedly was hired
on to help
Mr. Hurd interface with CEOs of his company's clients.
She reportedly stayed with Mr. Hurd on several corporate business
trips, including dining with him. While no one has accused the
pair of having a sexual relationship, Ms. Fisher later sued Mr. Hurd
for sexual harassment. The exact details of her accusations
remain unknown, as the suit was settled out of court.
Outside
of her contracting work, Ms. Fisher had worked as a film and
television actress. Her resume included several
softcore pornographic films such as Intimate
Obsession and Body
of Influence 2.
Mr.
Hurd began his career at NCR Corporation, where he would work for 25
years. In 2001 he became president of NCR, and in 2002 he was
made Chief Operating Officer. NCR Corp. makes ATMs, bar-code
scanners, and other commercial devices.
In 2005 he left NCR to
join HP, replacing CEO Carly Fiorina. Under his leadership HP
transformed from a struggling giant to the world's top personal
computer seller, surpassing Dell. HP shares have been down almost
13 percent since he resigned.
Mr. Ellison has long been
friends with Mr. Hurd and blasted
the board's decision to force him resign. He called
the board's tactics "cowardly" and voiced his support for
Mr. Hurd.
Oracle is the world's third largest software company
behind only Microsoft and IBM. It recently made headlines for
its acquisition
of Sun Microsystems in August 2009.
"We are going to continue to work with them to make sure they understand the reality of the Internet. A lot of these people don't have Ph.Ds, and they don't have a degree in computer science." -- RIM co-CEO Michael Lazaridis
