While Apple remains silent about games for the iPhone, the senior vice president of EA Mobile has had a lot to say
While Apple has not publicly mentioned very much about video games for the iPhone Mitch Lasky, senior vice president of EA Mobile reported that EA Mobile is in negotiations to produce iPhone games. "We have been talking to Apple about games on [the iPhone]," said Lasky. Lasky did not hint at a potential game line-up for the iPhone.
Casual games, the type that can be played for a few minutes while needing quick amusement, are gaining popularity on mobile phones, which is what Apple is banking on. The relationship between EA and Apple has already led to several successful games that can be purchased for the iPod through iTunes.
Since the iPhone was officially announced during Macworld last month, there were many rumors and much speculation about whether or not the phone would be able to play games -- Apple remains silent on any gaming plans that are in the works for the iPhone.
Analysts predict that other companies will also take an interest in creating video games for the iPhone. For example, both EA and Namco already have been chosen to develop games for the popular iPod MP3 players.
Microsoft announced gaming on the Zune just after the iPhone launch.
"If they're going to pirate somebody, we want it to be us rather than somebody else." -- Microsoft Business Group President Jeff Raikes
