What will the new Palm devices look like?  (Source:
Foxconn contracted to supply majority of new Palm devices, all to run webOS

Though the recently unveiled Palm Pre 2 is looking like a major disappointment, and despite reports that Hewlett Packard was going to let the Palm line of smartphones die, it's beginning to appear that the company is starting to make a comeback.

At least those are the words that, a Taiwanese economic news outlet, is using in a report that says Palm has contracted Foxconn to manufacture four to five new devices, and Commpal Communications to create one device for the beleaguered smartphone brand. The devices will all sport Palm's innovative and well-liked webOS.

Todd Bradley, executive vice president of Personal Systems Group of HP, also confirmed that the company will launch the PalmPad, a webOS-based tablet also manufactured by Foxconn, in 2011.

The report is based on unnamed "industry sources" and no further details were given, so all facts should be gleaned cautiously, at least until the rumors can be substantiated by additional sources. Either way, this development comes as good news for Palm enthusiasts who might have been worried that HP was going to appropriate webOS strictly for its own branded devices.

I hope HP is smart enough to jump all over the mobile market and really use webOS. At least try. I think a palmpad with webOS would be really great.

Please don't use the term "jump" when referring to Foxconn.

Ahahahahaha, awesome.

(I know, I should not use "awesome" with "Foxconn" especially when it's about a jump...)

Feel the Synergy for Palm!

Seriously... almost no posts about this.

When there were 500+ responses in 24hrs about the GeForce 460OC being included in the ATI 6800 review.

Just NO excitement for HP or PALM, eh?

Kind of miss the OLD-DAYS of Palm, owned by 3Com - that huge PDA with the mono screen, hard cover - ran on 2 AA batteries for months while todays cellphones require daily charging. :)

+1. I miss their heyday. You forgot the Handspring Visor you could beef up with all sorts of attachments. And using the IR transmitter with a remote control application to control your neighbors TV through their window.

What's to get excited about? A rumor of potential future products? I love my Palm Pre, but this is almost zero news. The only news here is that HP isn't killing off Palm. Yet.

I agree... and I hope that HP really succeeds with this. What they need is to make some good hardware and then keep improving the OS.

But this isn't much news. All I know is that in about5-6 months I will be upgrading my Pre Plus and if HPalm doesn't have a viable choice, I will probably get a WP7 device.
