OpenWorld 2007 takes place in San Francisco from Nov. 11-15

Oracle's OpenWorld 2007 event in San Francisco next week will offer journalists and attendees access to a who's who list of leading companies working in the tech industry.

A brief look at the keynote lineup for the event reveals a lot of big names most of you should be familiar with -- most of the speakers are well respected within the industry. For those of you who are unable to attend but still want to view the keynotes, they should be available live and on demand through Oracle's web site.

Along with the keynotes and exhibit show floor, a number of hands-on labs and talk sessions will be taking place during the week.

I'll be meandering around the show floor next week, so please feel free to e-mail me if there is anything in particular you want me to pay attention to. Even though the show is going to surround Oracle and its products, brief chats can be directed towards other forms of technology.

Similar to the event last year, OpenWorld will close an entire block of Howard Street -- where the Moscone Center is located -- for nine days. Even though the three main halls of the Moscone Center are large, more than 45,000 expected attendees
will also be able to take refuge in a large tent that will be built tonight.

If you've ever been curious about what a large convention does for the city economy, San Francisco hopes to make in the neighborhood of $80 million directly stemming from OpenWorld.

I am starting to see the big picture here. The 45,000 attendees get tent building lessons and free beer.

I think the 45,000 people messed up there team building exercise today. Howard Street is closed for tent building and Market Street (the next block for a left turn, two blocks up) was totally flooded out.

I hope someone I know gets some goodies to make up for the traffic that I had to sit in becuase the streets were closed.

I can understand MacWorld and LinuxWorld but what does OracleWorld mean to me? I don't think I have ever used Oracle.

It's not for you, its for business professionals. Companies send teams of engineers and whatnot out there each year to scope out the latest products and technologies so they might apply them to in house problems. Oracle is not something you would find in a Small/Medium business, or in a Home. Only Large Corporations/Enterprises tend to use them. Oracle isn't cheap....

They give out all sorts of neat goodies. One guy I worked with during our last trip there came back with a whole bag o' goodies.

The last OOW I attended was back in 2004. It was good and all, but each year they seem to rehash a lot of the same. This year I expect them to talk a lot about Oracle 11g.
