The console may not be here yet, but the user's guide is here for your viewing pleasure

Seriously now, for how many of you the first thing you do when (if) after getting a PlayStation 3 is to rip open the box and then sit down for an hour to read the manual from cover to cover? Right… no, the first thing you’d probably do is hook it up and turn it on to see on what you just blew over half a grand.

We don’t blame you. We’d do the same thing. Heck, we’ve taken one apart before reading the manual!

Perhaps Sony knows all about our need for instant gratification, and has made available online its complete User’s Guide. You can flip through it starting by clicking here.

Also of interest is this page, where Sony notes, “PLAYSTATION®3 allows any desired third-party system software to be installed on it besides its system software provided by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.”

while annoying, i've come to expect this. i hope it's not something like what EA implemented with BF 2142.

You're welcome. I like flipping through game stuff in the office too...err... wait...

As for the installing of third-part system software, that's not meant to be annoying. That's a Good Thing! It says that it'll let you install your own software on the PS3... maybe Sony's finally taken the "if you can beat 'em, join 'em" attitude with home brews.

ah my mistake, thanks for clarifying that Marcus. :) that actually makes me glad i'm not selling mine. if the PSP is any indication of the third-party support they received, albeit unwillingly by Sony, then this is looking to be a good purchase.

I read it...

I use to read them in the car ride home. Now I flip through and see if there is anything interesting. Most of the time they are just "How To Set ____ For Dummies" books full of warnings about things I don't even want to understand.

They should really start putting cheat codes in it or something. Then we would read it. You could even make it into a crossword puzzle where the cheats would be reveled once you finished it.

But what self respecting gamer is going to fill out crossword puzzles just so he can cheat?

Hmmmm!

Well that is really interesting...i wonder if software manufacturers will take advantage of this? They could start releasing software for the PS3, something other than games. Shoot, add a wireless or USB keyboard, and a word processor and you've got yourself a wicked PC for $500! it will be interesting to see how this plays out...up until reading this, i was dead set on the 360 when i have the money, because of its other "media center" features, but now i'm not so sure...
