Three new Curves heading to Canada this month

RIM is hoping that the newest version of the Blackberry OS will help grab back some of the users that have been defecting to other smartphones. RIM has announced three new Blackberry devices today and each of them are running the Blackberry OS 7 operating system. The new smartphones are also all in the Curve family.

The new phones include the Curve 9350, 9360, and 9370 smartphones. The three new devices will land in Canada this month and will hit carriers around the world starting in September. The three phones were designed with a similar look and feel and all promise a balance of ergonomics and style. The all use the Waterfall design similar to that of the new Torch smartphone according to RIM. The curved designs also have a soft-touch band to make them more comfortable to hold in the hand.

RIM also notes that the three new Curve smartphones are among the lightest smartphones ever in the Blackberry line at 99 grams each with the battery.

All three devices have the same 480x360 HVGA+ resolution screen and voice activated universal search. The voice search can also be used to search the web and with 3rd part apps. NFC is integrated into all three new Curve devices allowing the user to tap to connect to devices or authentic Blackberry accessories.

The phones also integrate social networking tightly with support for Twitter for Blackberry and Facebook right out of the box. The phones also have Social Feeds 2.0 to integrate social networks in one place. RIM also gave the new Curves the latest version of Blackberry Messenger called BBM6.

Pricing details are unknown at this time.

Do not believe DT posts about RIM or BB if you want to get an objective picture.

Why? Here's an argumentative explanation why.

RIM has released three high-end smartphone models recently, one slider (Torch 9810), one classic integrated keyboard form factor (Bold 99xx) and one full screen touch (Torch 9850/60). DT has posted NOTHING about this. So what do we have here? DT is ignoring the biggest RIM release of their high-end models and then posts some minor news about the rim LOW-END phones. Excuse me? Why do you DT guys cover RIM at all then?

Has DT posted minor Microsoft news about some hot fixes and ignored major MS releases? No.

Has DT posted minor Apple news about some small bugs in iOS and ignored major Apple announcements? No.

Has DT posted minor Google news about some obsure low end Chinese Android phone released in Africa and ignored major Google announcements about new Android and Google handset releases? No.

Has DT posted minor RIM news about the low-end not so interesting RIM phones and ignored major RIM announcements about Dead Space being released for Playbook or about new high-end handsets where the most important development is occurring? YES!

Judging by the facts above I have to conclude that DT editors are either paid by some RIM competitors to paint RIM in this way, NOT like they paint the other companies, or these editors are just dumb, or may be even both.

Any solid counter arguments besides downrating me and swearing at me in usual DT troll fashion? ;) Post your opinions, I'm interested. Maybe I'm wrong, then just tell me where and why.

They admittedly did not seem to do a follow-up post, but they did cover the announcement. And this article seems to have no bashing that I can see about the new Curves.

My issue with DT is that they ignored the OFFICIAL unveiling of the three new high-end BB phones that happened a couple of weeks ago in Toronto. They also ignored the release of Dead Space on Playbook, this is definitely more techie geeky fun and more important from the RIM consumer image perspective than some low-end phones not many geeks here care about.

Yes they do indeed, and I know about this, but my point was not about minor low-end phone releases, my point was about ignoring MAJOR releases and events.

Seriously, would you like to read about some cool new 3D game (Dead Space) released for a new RIM tablet or about some low-end BBM oriented handset from RIM? I'm surprised DT ignores interesting RIM related events while posting some minor things about them. This is unacceptable for a serious tech blog.

Maybe that's because RIM is a worthless company with no future who continues to put out phones that are behind the curve (no pun intended), an OS that still lacks fundamental features and have a research and development team that must consist of a 3 toed sloth, a fruit fly and a sheep... IN THAT THEY ARE ALL STUPID!!

If RIM had actually not become an anemic, lazy company when it came to R&D, maybe they wouldn't suck. And the reason Dead Space on Playbook wasn't covered is because the Playbook is god awful... so yeh... what a joke Pirks...

Maybe if RIM got serious about tech, DT might make more serious posts about them. As it stands, they are a sinking ship with very little innovation left to provide. Here's hoping Google buys what little is left of their company, if just for their amazing email technology patents, etc.

Seriously, we bought a Playbook for our COO. It *is* god awful. BB Bridge didn't even work with her model phone properly, though it had the right OS version...we returned it and got her an iPad, at her request.

You started a reply with "seriously", which automatically puts you in the "Clueless" category (refer to the movie - 1990's valley girl speak). Also, no online reviews ever came close to calling the Playbook awful, which calls into question your credibility and technical ability.

Blackberry design was pretty impressive, circa 2005, but I get the feeling their flagship phones have stuck with physical keyboards because they don't want their baby boomer business users to get out of their comfort zone.

"But what about the Blackberry TORCH?!"
What about it? 3.7" screen oh my god impressive! 1.2ghz snapdragon?? Wow! Seriously RIM, put something decent in your racecar and maybe people would be more interested in buying it.

3.7" screen is larger than the iPhone's 3.5" screen and 1.2GHz Snapdragon is faster than iPhone's 800MHz CPU too, so RIM shouldn't bother with your "racecar" demands because they have already beaten the industry leader in specs.

I own both an iPhone 4 and a BB Torch as my work phone, and the Torch is awful by comparison. Absolutely terribly designed touchscreen interface with endless complicated menu options. This is all the experience and evidence I need to know that what you're saying is patently incorrect, and even though I have only tried a Playbook briefly, my Torch experience ensures that I'll be sticking with my iPad2 thanks.

Which is why no one is interested in RIM, because all their products are old when they launch. Their OS is terrible. They are failing. You are that guy on the deck of Titanic as it was splitting in half screaming "It's unsinkable!"

RIM is going away, and they deserve it for being lazy and not reacting to market changes.

My aunt's POS 6 year old LG flip phone survived it too! Wow, incredible quality those Blackberries have! MUST GET NAO!

I was surprised that there was no bashing because these phones probably don't have Android , 1GB RAM and whatnot über-Dualcore CPU's on them.
