Phone carries top of the line processor, class-leading lens, and intriguing body design

Eager to get your hands on a hot Windows Phone 8 handset?

Well Microsoft reportedly is on track for an Oct. 29 unveil event.  It's going to be shipping release to manufacturing (RTM) code this week for the new smartphone operating system.

One of the most hotly anticipated WP8 handsets is the Lumia 920 from Finnish phonemaker Nokia Oyj. (OMX:NOK1V).  According to two independent reports -- TechRadar and The Verge -- the Lumia 900's WP8 successor will land on Nov. 2 on AT&T Inc.'s (T) network in the U.S.  AT&T is reportedly already busily testing the device in its labs, to ensure a silky smooth launch.

Meanwhile, Reuters reports two sources as saying that the high-end WP8 device will launch across Europe's various carriers in the "second half of November".

The Lumia 920 features a glove-friendly 4.5" WXGA (768x1280) curved glass capacitive multi-touch display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 32GB of storage, 2000 mAh battery, integrated NFC, built-in wireless charging using the Qi wireless standard, and of course, Windows Phone 8.

Other highlights include an 8.7MP "PureView" camera (f/2.0) with a Carl Zeiss lens and a wider selection of eye-catching polycarbonate bodies -- yellow, red, white, grey, and black.

And they wonder why these devices fail to sell.

Launch your sh!t on more than 1 carrier for christs sake.

I am sick and tired of AT&T getting all the damn windows phones.

Oh well your loss Microsoft guess your happy with 2% market share.

I'm tired of posts like this. While I agree, it takes two to tango and it's possible these other carriers didn't want to play ball and wanted to many concessions.

That being said, as MS and Nokia are essentially starting from the groud up in comparison to Apple/Android, they really need to invest in these products if they want to catch up.

I for one am on AT&T and can't wait for the 920. I can't stand Android and this new iPhone 5 "taller" screen is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I want USABLE real estate for general use. Nov 2 can't come soon enough, my iPhone 4 is starting to show its age.

T-Mobile US will start selling the Lumia 820 in the first week of November

That is good... kind of.

When there is so little carriers selling your product, they need to sell the 820 to EVERYONE.

The Lumia 820 is really the one that will sell best IMHO... its a bit smaller and looks far better than the 920. Its options are better.

At least Nokia/MS aren't waiting almost a year to release product this time.

Verizon is to introduce multiple unspecified Windows Phone models in the fourth quarter, with Verizon representatives saying that the company has been in talks with Nokia. Verizon would be selling a version of the Lumia 920, possibly also in the first week of November

Nope. The leak said the 822 was going to be on Verizon but there was no mention of any 920 type model. It looks like AT&T are going to be the only ones selling the higher end phone.

Stop tying phones to operators. Let the consumers pick & choose the operator & the phone.

They do this. It's called GSM and compatible frequencies, look at Europe and many other areas in the world. The problem is all of the stupid CDMA networks that tie phones to networks. You can take this Nokia Lumia and run it on T-Mobile's network (perhaps not at the fastest data rates) or on Straight Talk or other GSM networks.

If Verizon would ditch their CDMA, then they would be able to get the new phones right away and not have to wait for a special CDMA version.

You are completely right, the original android phone was released only on T-Mobile and they are suffering because of it...

...also, conveniently if you read more than one article at dailytech you would probably have caught this article http://www.dailytech.com/Prepare+for+a+Windows+Pho...

The 900 phone, while looks great and has a nice texture... the body shape is rather... ugh. It was rather uncomfortable.

I'm not sure why. Its only a bit bigger than the SGS3, but it really doesn't fit the hand well at all.

The 920 looks to be the exact same thing, but glossy.

MS only has 1% share if you throw out PRE 7.0 units.

No Blue?

Kinda bummed. Really like the blue color of my Lumia 900. Yellow is just to bright for me.

Agreed. I think that the gray color is my preference of these new ones, but the Blue 900 was my favorite by far.

I was just going to post the same thing. It's strange because the blue/cyan coolor was sort of the 'featured' color of the 900. Looks like yellow is now the featured color.

I think the blue is gone because it doesn't work well with the glossy effect of the latest style.

The white at&t version of the L900 is glossy... it feels like crap... but not as slick as the plastic-gloss of the Galaxy S3.

Camera is VERY impressive

The camera is super impressive: http://www.theverge.com/2012/9/7/3299784/nokia-lum...

It's a shame that Nokia is coming under so much fire for deceptive advertising, because the camera actually lives up to the hype.

Wow, looks like WP8 pwned iOS and Android camera quality wise. Totally unexpected. I doubt iPhone 5 will change this but we'll see in a week or so.

Looks like Ballmer was right when he put his bet on Nokia and not on some generic cookie cutter Android OEM like Samsung.

By TakinYourPoints on 9/7/2012 11:33:36 PM , Rating: 1
I agree. At the very least there is something else on the market that is different, original, and well executed. Can't say the same for companies out there like Samsung making their iPhone copies.

Price?

Has there been any word on what the cost of these phones will be?
