Samsung is planning to sell 374 million handsets next year

Samsung is looking to heat up the competition with rival Nokia in 2012 by increasing handset sales by 15 percent.

According to Samsung, it is planning to sell 374 million handsets next year, which is a 15 percent increase from the company's projected 325 million handsets for 2011.

Of the 374 million handsets, Samsung hopes to sell 150 million smartphones in 2012.

Samsung's rival Nokia, on the other hand, is expected to see a 5 percent decrease in handset sales for 2012 at 399 million. The company has had some issues recently with its first Windows Phone, the Nokia Lumia 800. The new addition to the Windows/Nokia family was accused of having faulty battery hardware, but Nokia revealed that broken firmware was the reason for the phone's problems.

It's very possible that Samsung could beat out the competition and increase sales, since it already managed to surpass Apple as the world's top smartphone vendor from July to September 2011 with its Galaxy S smartphones. This was quite a feat for Samsung, considering all the lawsuits flung back and forth between the two companies this year over Galaxy/iPhone/iPad infringement.

I didn't buy Samsung because of their poor support. If they really plan to upgrade just the SGS2 (and maybe SGS) to ICS, I don't think it's going to increase their appeal to the customers.
And the competition is only looking better: Sony-Ericsson used to be worse than Samsung, but at least they announced all their 2011 handsets will be upgraded. This move makes other manufacturers particularly bad, since their lineup includes the "lowly" Xperia Arc (single core, 1GHz CPU, 512MB RAM).

My mother got a Samsung Galaxy SII for T-Mobile. To say the least I am wasn't impressed. The T-Mobile network is horribly slow and I think the 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon CPU is a bit overkill for an Android phone. She's always complaining about battery life. I also wasn't impressed by the picture quality from the camera. My HTC Arrive takes better quality pictures.

The american versions of the GSII are pretty s***. The international version is the one to get.

Apparently my AT&T version is much better since it beat your international sh1t in the Basemark benchmark.

I wouldn't buy the Sprint or Tmobile version though. What is also sh1t is the fact that the stupid case makers keep trying to sell cases made for the international version for the AT&T version. I have ordered 7 cases and only have one that fits correctly and doesn't block both noise canceling mics. I blame Samsung for releasing slight derivatives of GS2 to satisfy stupid carrier requests.

The att and international sgs2 are identical in every sense except for the capacitive buttons, there's no reason one should be faster than the other unless one is using older firmware.

Not sure what you are smoking, they are nothing the same. LOL, just reread my post. In terms of processor/gpu/memory, yes. Everything else, no. And I was replying to the poster claiming my "american sh1t" was worse than his internatianal sh1t. Thanks though.

Samsung had poor support, but it disappeared when the sgs2 came out. The international sgs2 is getting constant updates, its already upto 2.3.6. The american sgs2's are a bit behind because of the carriers, they're slowing everything down. There's also an ics leak from samsung for the sgs2, should be out in march/april.

2.3.6 was released to the American (note American is capitalized) AT&T version 3 weeks ago but pulled it because it was buggy. Samsung made the mistake by releasing slight derivitives of the GS2 to the American market. If they just released the same phone, Samsung would be able to provide the updates for all much more quickly.
