Samsung Galaxy S5 gets a little brother

The Galaxy S5 variants just continue to proliferate as we trudge further into 2014. First there was the original Galaxy S5 followed by the Galaxy S5 Active, Galaxy S5 Sport, and Galaxy F. Now, the Galaxy S5 mini has been officially unveiled.

Although the Galaxy S5 mini descends from the Galaxy S5, it doesn’t pack nearly as much firepower as its larger brother. The smartphones packs in a 4.5” (1280x720) Super AMOLED display and a 1.4GHz quad-core processor (1.5GB RAM). The Galaxy S5 mini comes with 16GB of internal storage, a microSD slot is included for additional storage, a 8MP rear camera, a 2.1MP front-facing cameras, and a 2100 mAh battery.

Carryover features from the Galaxy S5 include IP67 dust and water protection, fingerprint sensor, heart rate sensor, an Ultra Power Saving Mode, and LTE connectivity.

The Galaxy S5 mini will be available in Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold when it launches in Russia early this month. From there, its availability will spread worldwide.
