Ice Cream Sandwich update rolls out OTA in Taiwan, other regions to follow

For those of you out there that bought the original ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101 and didn't have the urge to upgrade to the newer Transformer Prime, you'll be happy to know the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is being pushed out to customers.

Transformer owners who live in Taiwan were the first to receive the update (firmware v.9.2.1.11). Users in other countries -- including the United States -- will have to wait a few more days before the update are automatically pushed to their devices. However, we're sure that an official build will wind up "in the wild" for users to install manually before the official update gets pushed automatically.

ASUS went on to add on its Facebook page that it's happy to provide updates for products that are well past their prime:

ASUS prides itself on delivering the best products to end-users, which means that we not only aim to deliver innovative products but also to continue improving the out of box experience throughout their life cycle with regular firmware updates...We take great pride in delivering on-going enhancements and support for products that are well into their life cycle.

<Samsung> What? I dont know what you are talking about. But did you hear we will have 5 new phones for next month?, with Android ICS?! You can just buy one of those instead of expect us to deliver on our promises.

Yes, and still do... one of the best built laptops I've come across...

Just like everything else, though, you can't buy the cheapest toy on the block and expect it to not be... the cheapest toy on the block.

Actually, they don't, they are one of the top mainboard manufacturers.

I have never heard of Asus and quality issues in the same sentence. Most of thier history has been as a mainboard maker, but they were always high quality. Maybe there are issues on some of their more recent consumer products?

Yep it's you...you are crazy! :) Asus has always made the best quality mainboards in my opinion. Reaching to another topic, the exploding capacitors - The only brand of mainboard not effected where I was repairing them as quick as I could, was Asus. They held up very well. MSI, Epox (are they even still around?), and whatever else came through all had the exploding capacitor problem. Asus boards never did. Their government support group was fantastic to deal with on the few boards that died before the warranty went out.

As for Asus laptops...I'm on one now. It's one of the best laptops I've ever owned...never had an issue with it.

Perhaps it was just bad luck for you, but I think Asus has a solid name and reputation.

What? I'm sure I remember Asus laptops coming in ahead of Dell, HP, Acer according to Consumer Reports.

Apple and maybe Toshiba were ahead IIRC, can anyone back me up on this?

Awesome I haven't seen that yet, thanks for the info. I have mine sitting right next to me in my office and was checking it to see for the last few days since I knew it was supposed to be out before March. I love my Transformer and it runs very nicely. I wanted a Prime but couldn't justify the cost for 2 extra cores. Honestly I think it is the best tablet on the market so far. You can expand the memory on it and there is keyboard/dock option to it as well. Battery life is good and its very stable. Got my dad 1 with a dock for xmas and so far no problems or anything. I'm not exactly sure why would buy another device (other than looks? personal preference with a company), cost and features this is the best tab out there, well the Prime as well.

I've been using ICS via Cyanogenmod 9 since late December. Its really nice. Solid, stable, fast, and "really really good looking" /Zoolander.

The pace seems a bit slow, but its good to see more and more devices getting upgrades.

I have had ICS on my Xoom Classic for about a month now. Coming from a rooted custom kernel'd Honeycomb to a rooted custom kernel'd ICS I don't see that much diference. And I don't remember stock Honeycomb enough to give any comparison that that. In any event as good as ICS is, I can assure you that overclocked ICS is better.

What about the apps?
By ShaolinSoccer on 2/23/2012 5:25:01 PM , Rating: 2
When I read the reviews for some apps, I see people complaining about how the app doesn't work or doesn't work good with ICS. I'd almost be afraid to upgrade just because of that.

Dear Asus:

Please enter the smartphone market as we desperately need an android manufacturer who provides relatively quick updates and an AOSP android experience.

Thanks.
