@evleaks is at it again, this time showing us the HTC One (M8)'s little brother

The redesigned HTC One (M8) was officially announced back in March of this year, with HTC CEO Peter Chou proclaiming that it was “the best phone we have ever launched.” With the HTC One (M8) now in the hands of consumers and garnering positive reviews, the company is now ready to flesh out the “One” family.
The next model to appear will be the HTC One mini 2 and the folks from @evleaks as usual have posted the latest renders of the smartphone. The look of the HTC One mini 2 is instantly familiar for anyone that has taken a gander at its larger brother, although it definitely lacks the Duo Camera functionality.

No new information was provided the latest renders, but past leaks suggest that the smartphone will feature 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 4.5” 720p display, 16GB of internal storage (plus a microSD slot), a 13MP rear camera/5MP front-facing camera, Android KitKat 4.4.2 and Sense 6.0.

Naming mess

So, first HTC releases the One X, One V and One S.

A year later, they release the One, later followed by a smaller version called One mini.

Now, they've released the successor to the One and they're calling it One (M8). The smaller version of that they're calling One mini 2.

What the f*ck is wrong in HTC's marketing department? Aren't they able to plan more than 12 months into future?

LOL... I bet you they planned on calling it the "One 2" and then decided that sounds retarded.

Then again the "retarded" part is naming anything "One". After the 1st "One" you will always be retarded.

These naming trends are appalling.

Near as I remember, it all started with everything having an "XP" in the title, which bled into the "Extreme" era. Then came the exhausting list of "i" products. Now the Xbox One, and then the HTC One, Ubuntu One, Fitbit One, etc.

HTC should follow the likes of Canon if they want to get away with it. The flagship should be called the One from now on, then the lower models would get sequentially higher. But, the One M8 should be probably have been called the One.One or One.Two. Under that model, you can get 9 or 10 iterations before you have to revamp. You can take it out a further 9 iterations if you follow the Garmin model; starting with the One, then the One.One through .Nine, then the One.OneFive through .NineFive.

This same thing has pissed me off about BMW for years once the model number stopping being relevant to the engine. Then they flubbed the 1-series M-model, calling it 1M. All because there was an M1 a quarter century ago that no one remembers. Then continued to enforce the odd number=sedan, even number=coupe rule all except for the 3-series (which they have only just fixed).

You've missed One XL, One X+, One SV and One VX. Along with One Max. And a few CDMA and dual SIM variants.
So, you see, it's pretty straightforward. It's just that you didn't have the whole picture. </sarcasm>

The Sony Z1 Compact is 4.3" with Snapdragon 800
Just looked this up as I've never heard of it. Sounds like an awesome phone. Impressive hardware and features for sure.

I would.

The Z1 Compact looks like your typical checkbox sheet product. I don't need 4 cores on my phone, I barely need them on my desktop. And 20MP camera? My DSLR doesn't have this many pixels (and my lenses don;t resolve that many). As for "compact", it's only 1cm shorter and 0.5cm narrower than the Nexus 5, but it's one millimeter thicker. Yet the Nexus 5 has a 4.95" screen.
The One mini looks like a more balanced product. But of course, Sense guarantees you'll get one Android version update at most. A Google Play Edition would be very interesting, however.

Possibly because the Z1 isn't available on their carrier... Or they like metal.

Honestly, for a 4.5 inch phone 720p is acceptable and if you arent gaming the CPU/GPU is just fine. That actually fits a lot of people.

A Snapdragon 800 is WAY more than fine for a phone like this (LG G2 hardware retro). There are people bitchin here all the time about not getting top tier hardware in a small screen phone. Well here it is!

It's a Snap400, not 800. 1.4ghz quad core and a lower end GPU than the 800, lower than 600 too. But, like i said, if you arent gaming it's still fine for normal users assuming HTC doesn't bloat out the ROM.

I actually held a full size One M8 yesterday. Really nice. Well built. A lot more solid than last years One M7 IMO.

\Edit - I am referring to the One Mini2, not the Z1 mini... I could have done a better job separating my thoughts in the post above. The One Mini2 has a Snap 400 and is fast enough for most normal users that aren't gaming on it.

Yeah how horrible is it to have choices! They should be burned! Come on man, different folks different strokes. Besides availability is always an issue, not everybody has access to every model

Yeah, that's not what I said there, buddy. I don't understand these comments.

It looks nice, it is nice, the specs are fine apart from the SoC. But they're going to charge $500 for this thing, and it's going to flop, just like the original One Mini. I'd love to be proven wrong.

The right way to do a mini was the original HTC One S (or Sony Z1 Compact as mentioned earlier). Cut the screen down, but don't neuter anything else!
