Former PlayStation software boss becomes president of Atari

Phil Harrison, one of the early personnel behind PlayStation’s software business, surprised the industry when he announced his resignation from his post as president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studio.

Not missing a single business day since his last moment at Sony, Harrison has officially been announced as the new president of Infogrames Entertainment – more popularly known for its Atari brand.

Harrison’s new official title will be “President and Directeur Général Délégué” of the company, and will report to CEO David Gardner. Phil Harrison will oversee content development, boost publishing activities, and reinforce the company’s franchise portfolio of products.

“This is the perfect time to join Infogrames and help shape the future of Atari - one of the industry's legendary brands,” said Harrison. “As the game business moves rapidly online I believe we have an outstanding opportunity to create amazing network game and community experiences for players the world over.”

“I am pleased to welcome Phil to Infogrames. He has an outstanding reputation in the industry, as one of the key leaders behind the success of PlayStation,” added David Gardner. “We have been seeking an opportunity to work together for some time and I am certain he will be able to make a significant contribution to the publishing strategy of the Group. Drawing upon Infogrames' strong financial foundation, Phil will have the means to attract new talent, develop studio and online capabilities, and drive forward our publishing activities.”

In short, Harrison will be applying to Infogrames his keen developer management know-how, which helped shaped Sony’s internal game environment to what it is today.

Well considering the respective sizes of the companies yea. Considering the position on the ladder it seems more of a lateral move.

I'm betting they ponied up some nice incentives for him to move laterally like this. Should be interesting to see what they produce over the next 12 months.

I am wondering, did Sony kick him out cause I am not sure I see this as moving up, & seems like he just took a step back. The article says legendary, LOL. Atari has been known for crap or poor quality for many years. Hope all goes well for him...

He may have even taking a pay cut. What your all failing to realize, is that money and/or position may not be that important to him anymore.

Maybe dealing with Sony was too much pressure or maybe he wanted to spend more time with his family and not travel as much. Point is, there's many factors that go into changing positions.

He may or may not take a pay cut, but he probably wasn't hurting for money and there's nothing like being a CEO.

He's not a CEO though, he's a president. He still reports to the CEO.

Maybe he moved for the challenge. Raising Infogrames standing won't be easy - but it could be exceedingly rewarding.

In french, P resident D irecteur G eneral(PDG) means CEO. Harrison will be CEO... of Atari, which is a subsidy of Infograme. Therefore, as CEO of Atari, he wil report to the CEO of Infogramme. Hence the "delegue" (delegate) part of the title. Voila

Ahhh I see! I was wondering exactly what he was the 'president' of. Turns out he's the CEO (PDG!) of Atari. Nice move imho.
