92,000 sq-ft and 600 new employees

PayPal says that it will open a new research facility in Scottsdale, Arizona. The new facility will be home to more than 400 research professionals by 2009. PayPal says that the new facility will be 92,000 square-feet and be located around Scottsdale's future SkySong technology park. PayPal's new Arizona location will accompany its parent company, eBay, which also has a large location in Phoenix.

News of PayPal's upcoming facility comes right on the heels of Google's plans to open a location in Phoenix. The search company is well on its way to finishing a research facility that is suppose to be home to roughly 600 employees. Google is also in the process of opening a new research facility in Michigan.

PayPal says that it plans to have the new facility up and running by November of this year. Jamie Patricio, a spokesperson for PayPal mentions that PayPal will be hiring roughly 100 new employees for product development, operations and infrastructure design immediately.

PayPal is facing new competition from Google, now that Google has its new CheckOut service operational. The new service is picking up more support almost on a daily basis. PayPal's parent company, eBay, does not allow its users to use Google CheckOut for online auctions.
