With
E3 having ended earlier this month, many fans are waiting for the
hardware and games announced at the show to hit the market. Sony had
some interesting announcements at E3 for its popular game console
including new features, games, and hardware.
One of the
interesting new features unveiled at this year's E3 was the
new PlayStation
Plus membership. The membership promises gamers access to
exclusive download content and free games among other things. The
PlayStation Plus subscription service is now available via a software
update which became
official today. The update brings the PS3 firmware to version
3.40.
Sony has posted an official blog outlining the major new
features of the update. Sony included a Photo Gallery that adds
network based photo sharing to the PS3. Using the new feature, users
can browse photos on Facebook and Picasa Web Albums, and share photos
with friends on the PlayStation Network.
The update also
brings a Video Editor and Uploader to the XMB. Using these features,
PS3 users can upload, edit, and save video on the PS3 directly to
sites like Facebook or YouTube. After applying the update, users will
be able to rate all content they previously purchased (and future
purchases) with ratings of one to five stars.
The update
also adds power saving features to the PS3. This feature lets the PS3
shut itself down automatically after sitting unused for two hours.
