More details of the Nintendo Wii

Opera has just announced Nintendo will use the Opera browser on the upcoming Wii console. Wii will feature a Connect24 feature that keeps the system online all the time (24 hours a day).  Internet connection is extremely integral component of Nintendo Wii.

"For our Wii console launch in 2006, we required a browser that was fast and secure with support for the latest standards including AJAX. Opera proved perfect for our purposes and is an exceptional addition to both the Nintendo DS and the Wii console," said Genyo Takeda, senior managing director and general manager, Integrated Research & Development Division, Nintendo Co., Ltd.

Opera is no stranger to Nintendo.  Back in February Nintendo announced the Opera browser would also work on the Nintendo DS and DS Lite handheld. Opera is expected to roll out the DS browser in Japan this summer.

definitely a good choice for a browser...i think it is 'integral' that it does have a good browser since it has nowhere near the "muscle" of the X360 and PS3.

actually its proving to be quite a fighter when it comes to its CPU which although only 2 cores is supposed to be on par with the XBOX 360 and in the GPU department i believe Nentendo is still enlisting ATI to make their card which means it will be along the same lines as the 360s

i believe you are mistaken, the Wii cpu is not on par with the xbox360 cpu
i am more excited about thr Wii than the other 2 consoles. I will NEVER buy a 360. If i buy a PS3 it will be for the media center, HDMI, 1080p, and Blu-Ray (though i want HD-DVD to win)
but Wii i would buy for fun

How do you know that the 360's cpu is more powerful? Have any details about the Revolution's(I refuse to call it Wii) cpu been released? If Nintendo chooses to go with a more conventional cpu design then until programmers learn how to use the more threaded, simpler design of the 360's cpu the Revolution's cpu could actually be faster, even if it doesn't have as many cores or run at as high a clock rate.

It's ATI's subsidiary Called ArtX who has provided all the graphical solutions for Nintendo for the last 20 years. ATi bough them out about 10 years ago. So it is no surprise that ATi will be playing this role again for the fith or sixth time (may be 8 or 9 if you include all the Game Boys).

Prehaps someone else has more information and can refresh my swiss cheese memory.

artx only provided the gamecube's graphics chip.

the artx team has basically done all of ATi's real design work ever since ati bought them out just before the GC's release. that include's ati's killer 9700.

Good company chooses good web browser.

As a webdesigner I must say that nothing really compares to Opera on the Windows platform!
