More details of the Nintendo Wii
Opera has just announced Nintendo will use the Opera browser on the upcoming Wii console.
Wii will feature a Connect24 feature that keeps the system online all
the time (24 hours a day). Internet connection is extremely
integral component of Nintendo Wii.
"For our Wii console launch in 2006, we required a browser that was fast and secure with support for the latest
standards including AJAX. Opera proved perfect for our purposes and is an exceptional addition to both the
Nintendo DS and the Wii console," said Genyo Takeda, senior managing director and general manager, Integrated
Research & Development Division, Nintendo Co., Ltd.
Opera is no stranger to Nintendo. Back in February Nintendo announced
the Opera browser would also work on the Nintendo DS and DS Lite
handheld. Opera is expected to roll out the DS browser in Japan this
summer.
"We are going to continue to work with them to make sure they understand the reality of the Internet. A lot of these people don't have Ph.Ds, and they don't have a degree in computer science." -- RIM co-CEO Michael Lazaridis
