An update for OS X Mountain Lion is here, and it comes with several fixes including the release of Safari 6.0.3.

The OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 update promises a slew of fixes. Here is the complete list, straight from Apple support:
  • The ability to redeem iTunes gift cards in the Mac App Store using your Mac's built-in camera
  • Boot Camp support for installing Windows 8
  • Boot Camp support for Macs with a 3 TB hard drive
  • A fix for an issue that could cause a file URL to quit apps unexpectedly
  • A fix for an issue that may cause Logic Pro to become unresponsive when using certain plug-ins
  • A fix for an issue that may cause audio to stutter on 2011 iMacs
  • A fix for an issue in Contacts that may cause cards to print out of order
  • A fix for an issue that may cause the desktop picture to change after logging out or restarting
  • A fix for an issue in Messages that may cause messages to appear out of order after waking from sleep
  • A fix for an issue that may cause the screen to display incorrectly after waking from sleep
  • Improves compatibility with IMAP servers in the Notes app
  • Allows the Slideshow screen saver to display photos located in a subfolder
  • A fix for an issue in Contacts that may cause addresses to print in the wrong location
  • Reliability improvements when using a Microsoft Exchange account in Mail
  • Xsan reliability improvements
  • A fix for an issue that could cause Active Directory accounts to be locked out after accessing the Security & Privacy pane in System Preferences
  • A fix for an issue that could cause link aggregation to not complete after a restart
  • A fix for an issue that could cause delays when logging into an Active Directory account on high latency networks
The update also features Safari 6.0.3, which promises improved scrolling on Facebook and while zoomed in on a Webpage; better performance on pages with plug-ins; a fix for duplicate bookmarks on an iOS device after editing them with OS X; a fix for inaccurate appearances of alerts associated with changing bookmarks; improved Safari restoration in terms of navigating back to a user's last visited page, and a fix for that glitch that allowed users to access unfiltered search results from Google when Parental Controls were on.

The update can be downloaded here for free.

Why do we need to download this manually? Shouldn't we just get it automatically?

Not sure why they included the link, but by default the computer will find the update by itself and prompt you for your password and permission to install/restart.

I assume that the population that wants the latest update from Apple and has manually turned off 'check for update' is likely very, very small.

If clicking the "update all" button in the app store is too much work for you, you probably shouldn't be using a computer.

Honest question here, with the "It just works!" mentality among Mac users, any idea how many would proactively download this update or install it? (either by OS X update prompt or manual download)
