OQO has released some mid-cycle updates for its tiny model
02 UMPC. The device, which began shipping in late
March, features a VIA C7M ULV processor, 5" 800x480 display, Bluetooth
2.0+EDR, 802.11a/b/g and an HDMI port.
New items on the model 02 options sheet
include a new 1.6GHz processor (up from 1.5GHz), a 120GB HDD and a 32GB solid
state drive (SSD). OQO is also increasing its WWAN speeds with optional EV-DO
Rev. A connectivity (Verizon or Sprint).
"With today's announcement, OQO further extends its
lead in the fast-growing UMPC category," said OQO Senior VP of Marketing
and Alliances Bob Rosin. "OQO created the UMPC and our new products offer
performance, wireless and storage options that further advance our vision of anytime/anywhere
access to information, applications, corporate networks and the full PC
internet."
Finally, OQO dropped the price of entry for the model 02 –
it now starts at $1,299 instead of $1,499. The entry-level model will get you a
1.2GHz processor, 512MB of memory, 40GB HDD and Windows XP Home. If you fork
over an additional $1,050, you can get a model 02 with a 1.6GHz processor, 1GB
of memory, 32GB SSD and your choice of Windows XP Professional or Windows
Vista.
