The rather sleek looking Equalizer
Great things can be expected from the OCZ Equalizer

The gaming peripheral market finally has another major player!  Razer and Logitech better look out behind them, OCZ is hopping into the gaming mouse market.  The company has announced the OCZ Equalizer Laser Mouse, a gaming mouse that sports 2500 DPI, which tops the likes of the Razer Copperhead and Logitech G5 gaming mice.  This marks the first time the company best known for performance memory will venture into gaming peripherals.

“OCZ’s goal is to constantly develop new cutting edge solutions that make use of the latest technology to offer a superior user experience whether it is editing CAD files or playing the latest games,” said Alex Mei, VP of Marketing, OCZ Technology.

While I have enjoyed the gaming products from both Razer and Logitech over the years, I will appreciate when OCZ's first gaming mouse is released.  I have always believed that an additional competitor in the market will only be a win-win situation for gamers.

A more intriguing feature of the Equalizer is the "innovative" OCZ "Triple Threat" button, which allows gamers to apparently fire three shots with one button click.  The mouse also sports six sensitivity levels that allow gamers to switch from 400dpi up to 2,500dpi while gaming.  According to a brief test in Taiwan, the mouse appears to work well.

One of the biggest complaints I have had about gaming mice is the ergonomic design that is allegedly considered during creation -- even though OCZ claims the mouse will be ergonomic, I will remain doubtful.

The Equalizer should be available soon for a MSRP of $50.

As the demands of PC gamers continues to increase in the future, don't be surprised if more quality gaming peripherals are available on the market.

Rebraded A4-Tech

This just screams to be a rebranded mouse from A4-Tech under the OCZ name. The mouse are pretty good quality for cheap prices. This seems to be an exact replica of the X-750F model and you can probably find reviews for that in a lot of places.

...Could not find a single review. Bizarre. Did this go under everybody's radar? Specs sound good to me, although I think that "Triple Threat" button might get one banned from Counterstrike servers and similar ilk. I'm not entirely sure.

Definitely sounds like a great mouse. Someone know more about it?

Hi Vdig, thanks for the comments, we just got our shipment and the mice are all on teh way to the press. I take all their feedback on all products to heart and feed it back to the R&D team. Stay tuned.

Gary Key and Jarred Walton from AnandTech.com posted a photo of this mouse from a Pre-CES show in one of their articles, Dec. 7th, 06.

And this mouse's ergonomics looks very different from the X-750F that you mentioned, so I wouldn't at all say that it's re-branded.

The ergonomics of the X-750F and the Equalizer look exactly the same. Seems the only element different is the color scheme.

are you blind?

The mouse linked by the OP looks exactly like the OCZ mouse above - it even has the same silly red button (which they call 3xFire).

As already noted, the only difference between the two is the color (blue, vs. black).

My store has been carrying this mouse for over a year.
The orange button does the same thing ( fire x3 )
DPI up to 2500.

I'm a big fan of OCZ but this is rather disappointing

OCZ SUCKS

This mouse is a total rebadge as is their video card and their worthless memory, this is a company with an R&D department the size of a mop closet, pathetic!!! At least if you are going to do this buy the other company, retire their mouse and then reintroduce it under your name. I myself would not buy anything from these losers. Read up on their IPO as well to see that this company is out to make a quick buck, and it totally irresponsible.

He Berat, I'm a representative from OCZ. I do appreciate all comments, and also appreciate the opportunity to respond when I can. All of this helps us cater better towards gamers and enthusiasts.

We do have a sizable R&D department here and it is separated out into different categories (memory, cooling, power, graphics, and . We have been making quality memory for many years and our recent introduction of the video card uses the same philosophy as our memory. We bin, 100% hand test, and support them with top notch support both on the phone and in the forums.

The Equalizer mice make use of our partner’s best components and is just the first of many new peripherals that is being introduced for gamers. We have been doing business for many years and the recent growth has allowed us to invest even further in R&D. We are releasing a number of exciting new memory products starting with the heatpipe based Reaper today. Thanks again for the time.
