Red Nintendo DS Mario Bundle
Nintendo DS bundles offer two new colors for holiday shoppers

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and many shoppers will be rushing out the day after to begin their holiday shopping. Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year for most retailers and is the day when shoppers can get some of the best deals of the season.

Nintendo has announced a couple new Nintendo DS Lite bundles that will be available for shoppers on Friday. The bundles are both limited edition and are available in new colors. One of the bundles is the Mario Red Nintendo DS bundle that includes the shiny red hardware emblazoned with the Mario "M" and a copy of the New Super Mario Bros game.

The second new bundle is the Ice Blue Nintendo DS that includes the new Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day game and a custom carry case. Both of the bundles carry the same $149.99 retail price. Nintendo is also offering new games for the DS system including Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Kirby Super Star Ultra and more.

Nintendo is mum on exactly how many of these limited edition bundles are available so if a DS Lite is on your shopping list keep an eye out for these bundles and get one while you can. This could be the last chance for users to get limited edition Nintendo DS systems before the new system is launched next year.

Not what I was hoping for

Oh well. I was hoping a bundle suited for a young girl would be released for Christmas but I guess not. I am looking to get a DS for my daughter but will just build my own bundle.

In the same vein I wish the new model made it out before the holiday season. I hate buying a product knowing an upgraded version is right around the corner.

Such is technology I guess.

Arguably, the current DS is better than the upcoming "upgrade". The new DSi gets rid of the GBA backwards compatibility in order to add a low quality digital camera. Between the two, I'd take the console that will give me a better gaming experience rather than the console that gives me a replaceable feature I could get anywhere else (like on a cellphone you might already own).

The only important change was that the DSi has a somewhat larger screen and expanded web functions... so it's a closer trade off than you might think.

I agree - I was underwhelmed with the new DS coming out.

Out of curiosity, if GBA backwards compatibility is removed, does this mean the Guitar Hero peripheral won't be compatible with the new system? From what I've been reading, the slot was removed all together in the DSi.

The DS is a decent enough portable but I always felt that it was outdated and of poor value at it's $140 price point. Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo, but adding a VGA camera really doesn't add much to the functionality of the DSi. Fortunately, they finally made DLC available for it. These bundles seem pretty solid though. $150 for a decent game and the system. Means the console itself is only $110, which is more in line with the price point of past Gameboys.

I'm pretty sure that all peripherals intended to be used through the GBA game slot will no longer be compatible because Nintendo has removed the entire slot from the system.

Oh man, that's lame. I was thinking of getting a Lite and the GH game. I'm not sure the guitar add-on works with the original DS I have.

Yeah, the slot isn't there. The original DS Lite is better.

Not so, since the DS-i removes GBA compatibility.

F-f-f-f... Now Ice Blue has a general release, damn, well, it was fun having a previously Japanese only (and, it seems, Australian limited availability) colour

i paid $149 for the zelda ds bundle last year. WAY better deal. gold ds & phantom hourglass.

nintendo does seem to be making a boneheaded move with the gba-less ds. better idea:

re-instate backwards gb compatibility all the way back to super mario land 1.

So this is the new verbal version of Brain Training? Minutes A Say? Do you talk really, really slow so it takes minutes to say?
