The average mobile gamer plays approximately 7.8 hours per month

Mobile apps have changed the way we use our phones entirely, giving us more professional and entertainment-related options on the run. With popular apps like Angry Birds rising in popularity, it's no surprise that mobile gaming is the most popular category among all app types in the U.S.

According to Nielsen research, 93 percent of those who have downloaded an app within the last 30 days are willing to pay for mobile games. Also, iPhone, Windows 7 or Android users who have played mobile games in the last 30 days most likely downloaded games, while Blackberry and featurephone users are more likely to play pre-loaded games.

While the average mobile gamer plays approximately 7.8 hours per month, iPhone users play the most at an average of 14.7 hours per month. Android users play about 9.3 hours per month.

With 93 percent of mobile users willing to pay for games, only 76 percent of users who have downloaded an app within the last 30 days are willing to pay for news apps.

I find that quite high. I would have figured that many people would have looked for free news apps or just gone to the news website.

I find it interesting the differences in iPhone users and Android users.

I would also like to see here how much of the Total phone use that is. I think that it probably would show that iPhone users are not as business related as Android users?

I think this chart kills bragging about 25k, 350k, and 500k apps.

Basically if your smart phone has the top applications of the 19 categories ported to your smartphone your able to do what 99% of the people out there with smartphones do on a daily basis.

Hehe, as a pc gamer I enjoyed the playtime statistics.

"The average mobile gamer games 7.8 hours per month"

"The average PC gamer games 7.8 hours per night"

And I would imagine console gamers stats are very close to PC gamers. Give me a weekend and I can meet that average.

Most of my colleagues does nothing with their smartphones other than downloading games. They're way past AngryBirds.

It's only Android folks who are left out because of lack of quality games. There's no shortage of top notch games on the iOS platform.

With new games from Sega, Konami, Capcom, EA, and even Nintendo has promised to make games for iOS now.
