Newegg will ship to Canada now you hoser

Anyone who shops around for computer hardware, electronics, or other gadgets has probably come across Newegg.com. Go to a forum where computer enthusiast congregate and ask where to get a component and many of the people will steer you to Newegg.

For a long time, if you lived in Canada you could not order from Newegg. This was a huge problem for many Canadian PC enthusiasts since their American counterparts were partaking of some of the deals Newegg had to offer.

Here in America, Newegg says it is the second-largest online retailer. Newegg built a reputation on good customer service, good prices, and fast shipment. I have purchased from Newegg many times personally. The site claims that it is able to ship 99% of approved orders within 24 hours of the order being placed.

Canadian electronics and computer enthusiasts will be very glad to hear that Newegg is opening up a Canadian website and will be shipping gear into Canada. The exact date Newegg.ca will go online and start accepting orders is unknown, but it should be fairly soon since Newegg has already announced its plans. It's not clear if Newegg will open a Canadian warehouse, or if all items will be shipped from its existing warehouse.

Being in Canada, I tend to use ncix... I have a total from there... It's not pleasant either :)Somewhere in the neighborhood of $20k since 2006. But I am sure a lot of you posting huge totals, have seen your older stuff make its way into friends cases, as has a lot of mine.

Addition..

You should also mention that it's NewEgg's goal to have any package delivered in 2 days even with UPS Ground. God bless The Egg.

I actually find that NewEgg is becoming a bit high-priced in the shipping department. Not only that, they're cutting more corners using cheaper packaging and still charging high prices for shipping. I purchased an SD micro card the other week and paid $7 for UPS ground in a padded envelope.

I recently purchased a hard drive from ZipZoomFly, which had free shipping, but I upgraded to 2-day to ensure delivery before the weekend and I still paid less than NewEgg for the same drive (excluding the fact that I pay tax on NewEgg and I don't on ZZF). The one benefit on NewEgg is the fact that you can order using ground shipping and it will typically get to you quickly. Anything shipping to me from New Jersey is usually next day.

ZipZoomFly does have better shipping. The issue is their site is much poorer though than Neweggs and their selection isn't nearly as broad. Usually before I buy stuff I compare the two. Some things I can get cheaper at one, some cheaper at the other. But then I look at the added cost of shipping from two different sources. Typically it comes out about even.

But yes I do love the fact that ZipZoomFly's preferred shipping partner is FedEx instead of UPS. UPS has yet to damage anything coming from Newegg but they've damaged or downright lost other things my family has shipped with them.

Had a suitcase that my parents ordered online once come with a giant tear in the box. Literally the only thing holding it together was a piece of packing tape. Looked like someone had planned to steal whatever was inside but only found a suitcase. On top of that in the less than 10 seconds it took for me to get to the door, the UPS guy was back in his truck and driving off without having me sign for it. Probably because he knew there'd be a complaint.

Yup, I used to like NewEgg a lot, and although I still like them, it's only about a 6~7 on a scale of ten while once upon a time they were a 9 or so. Their ads have gone glossy/flashy, email ads and forums galore, and both prices and shipping gone up vs the competitors. If Amazon has what I'm after they're usually less expensive and I'll get it quicker from them as well (talking in particular about Amazon being the direct seller).

Aboot Time

It's about time Newegg came to Canada. I remember hearing over a year ago that they bought the Newegg.ca domain but I though it wasn't going anywhere. Not that NCIX is bad but they can be expensive at times.

Ha... That's why you just price match the crap out of them. I've never had them reject a price match ever. I've also had orders where every single item was price matched, that being said if it's only a buck or two I don't mind because I've yet to have bad service from them ever.

This being said, their ground shipping rates are atrocious. Other sites I've order from have cheap or free ground shipping on orders over a few hundred... Not NCIX... paying 50 or 60 dollars for ground shipping can put a funk over most price matches... Esp as they won't match shipping rates.

If they ship from the US...

I fail to see how they will be able to compete with the already-existing Canadian stores here.

They'll either have to work out a deal with UPS/Fedex/whoever to handle duty/brokerage fees ahead of time, which ends up costing them more money. (or the worse alternative - letting the UPS delivery person surprise !! you at your doorstep with a large duty/brokerage fee) This would then probably translate into even higher shipping fees.

Would be great if they open Canadian warehouses though! Now that would be something to look forward to.

I don't really know why your being down rated... I can't vote you up... but I can do the next best thing.

You are right though, unless they are shipping from A Canadian warehouse, the UPS / Fedex brokerage fees are ridiculous. Add to that there have been issues with delays at borders when ordering from American firms. For instance, think geek. I used to like ordering from them, but the shipping rates for anything traceable are ridiculous for small orders. Add to that (I think my apartment is in a black hole some times) I have had numerous shipments just never show. A Time Life order for a friend, some cell components from a palm reseller(had to be shipped twice), and a few other things.

So yeah, here's hoping they have at least one Canadian warehouse.

Newegg if your reading this, put it in Winnipeg! Dead center, and cheap land to build on!

Competition helps..

NCIX is a fantastic site, but as has been mentioned, they can be a little pricey *sometimes*.
As for shipping, if you live outside of British Columbia (the province they're based in), the money you spend on shipping can often be offset by the fact that you don't pay provincial tax. Here in Ontario, that'd be 8% added to the purchase price. As well, often their specials include discount next day shipping, or free shipping for an entire order (up to a weight limit, usually 50 lbs).
I'm curious to see how Newegg will compete at first (I'm sure very well just because of name recognition) and how it may affect the pricing at NCIX. To me this is a win-win situation for the consumer.
