Space Adventures is the only organization that has successfully sent tourists into space
A select few millionaires over the years have had the opportunity to do something that many of us wish we had the opportunity to do -- be a space tourist. Space Adventures, the company that has sent three space tourists into orbit, has made an agreement with capital firm Prodea. The joint venture will help finance suborbital vehicles that are being built by a Russian aerospace company for future space tourist missions. The Russian Federation's Federal Space Agency will also be involved in this agreement, because the company will be developing the vehicles.
Prodea is best known for creating the X Prize, and gave $10 million to the team that created and successfully launched the SpaceShipOne manned rocket.
How much does it cost to buy your way into space? A reported $20 million will be the ticket price for a trip that will orbit the international space station.
"We can't expect users to use common sense. That would eliminate the need for all sorts of legislation, committees, oversight and lawyers." -- Christopher Jennings
